My 5 year old won't stop sucking on her index finger..we've tried a bunch of different products to stop thumb sucking and fingernail biting. All with little effectiveness.
I ordered this and another product similar to it and I swear she LIKES the taste of it. I've asked her if it bothers her or if is 'icky' and she's told me no.
I'd say that's a failure.
I wish I could say this helped at all, i'd like to find something nice to say about it (okay, it came nicely packaged) but thats about it.
I'd turn somewhere else to find a truely effective product to stop these habits.

I have been biting my nails for years, and of all the products i have tried, this one is the only one that works. the bad taste lasts for days, unlike most other products which need reapplying twice a day, also once the taste is in your mouth, it is hard to get rid of, deterring you from biting them again. i find this product really works.Customer Review: My neighbor used it on her son...

I put this on my 3 1/2 yr old. It was kind of sad because it really tastes bad (I tried it myself too) It's only been 3 days and I'll probably re-apply today, but she won't even go near her thumb now!

I bought this product for my 4 yr old son who was bitting his nails and it worked great!! the bitter taste make him stop the bad habit after the first application. Also used it on my daughter's thumb trying to stop her thumb sucking habit but in this case it was not as effective, she would put the thumb in her mouth, make a "this is so yucky " face cause of the taste but reinsert the finger in mouth after, finallly after a combination of this product, band aids and supervision she has almost stop the thumb sucking. My 4 year old daughter has been sucking her thumb since birth, and we've spent about the last two years trying to get her to stop. I believe she truly wants to stop, but can't get over the habit.
I used this stuff on her thumbnail (and mine and my wife's) and she immediately stopped sucking. It tastes truly awful, and the bitterness doesn't leave so be prepared with some fruit juice always on hand for the first couple days. Also, the first night was hard because she instinctively would suck and be woken up by the horrible taste (I have to run to the fridge for juice in the middle of the night)
It's been two full days and she no longer seems to have an urge to suck her thumb anymore. Here's the amazing part - she is extremely happy that she's done sucking her thumb! I don't think she wanted to, but felt compelled to and now she feels great.
