Everyhousehold should have this item. I used to get headaches at least one a week then I started using this item which my mom told me about - it was recommended by a doctor for her to use ... what a great doctor .. rather than prescribing a pill he suggested this and it worked for her. Her problem was a sinus one. I have sinus problems too and this device helps them; however, thank God they are not to severe so I just use it for when I get a headache. My main problem is the headaches. When I started using it twice a day the headaches went away now I just use it when needed. My headaches are due it seems to the weather. When the weather changes especially when going to rain I get a headache a day in advance and it is the type that nothing helps the headache. Aspirin, tylenol, advil, ice packs, sleep, coffee, or no coffee, sweets, nothing helps .. that kind of headache .. This device prevents the headaches from showing up in the first place and when one does come because I have not been using the device it goes away. Don't use vicks vapor rub in it I did lol and it gave me a vaseline type sludge inside the device. As far as the steam being hot well it needs to do that to work I do not hold my face away but I do extend the tube out all the way this allows steam to come out the side of it which lessens the severity of the steam also it steams and moistens the nose and around the nose probably cleans the pores there too :) my mom thought it was hot too. Perhaps the tender skin of women require special usage like holding it a tad away from face ?? Makeup should probably be removed before hand. OH Important!! towel dry out the inside of the device when done get all the moisture/water out of it when done. You may need to let it cool a little first. I have a degree in Biology and this will help prevent fungus etc from growing and then inhaling this ... The heat may neutralize any fungus in the event you did not clean it out - IF any grew ... but just wipe it out good and let ALL the pieces Air Dry until the next use to prevent any fungus etc from growing. I keep my inhaler in a little box with all pieces taken apart until I use it again. I also use a saline nasal spray every day as my sinus routine my mom does not as she says it drys her nose I could not live without the daily saline nasal spray and could not live without this inhaler. Have not tried other types of inhalers this one works buy it.
