Customer Reviews of Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone Earplugs, Value Pack, 6 prCustomer Review: Practical Ear Plugs Summary: 5 Stars
As one user suggested, these earplugs are most effective if rolled into elongated cylinder shapes, stuck length-wise into the ear canal, and molded on the outside (to look roughly like a mushroom). The packaging advises against such usage, but I have been using them this way for quite some time, and have never had any problems with getting the silicone plugs stuck in my ears. This way, the outside of the plug goes flush against your pillow, and discomfort while sleeping is minimized. I am a light sleeper who wakes very easily, and I use these when traveling, or any time I am sleeping near people who are on a different schedule from me. The other foam ear plugs may provide a higher decibel-level protection for some activities, but I have never been able to sleep with them in because they tend to be very uncomfortable, and irritate my ears when I rest them against the pillow. These ones are malleable and can be molded to fit any ear, and given a proper seal, provide quite good noise reduction and are quite comfortable to wear. I had these in while walking around the airport recently and picked up certain frequencies better than others. I was able to isolate certain sounds, like a nearby conversation, for instance. It's true that you will be able to hear your own heartbeat and breath with great sensitivity when these are in as well. I also used plugs very much like these (if not these same ones) when swimming as a child, with tubes in my ears which had to be kept dry.
Customer Review: Best All-round ear plugs Summary: 5 Stars
I have tried many types of ear plugs and these are the best. They are made out of soft silicon, so you can mold them to fit your ear. The stay put and are comfortable. The foam-type ear plugs tend to pop out, and they are very scratchy to me. The non-moldable rubber-y ones are even worse; they hurt my ears and don't block out sound very well. "Mack's earpillows" are waterproof, so you can swim without getting water in your ears. (good for swimming and bathing for children who have "tubes" in their ears, too). Your sleep-environment will be dead quiet (except for those little voices in your head!) in a normal room. If you are dealing with partner-snoring, people watching TV in another room, or the like, "Mack's" masks much of that, too. Very handy for travel. The only drawbacks that I know are the fact that they don't kill all noise (nothing does that), and they don't last forever (nothing does that either.) You throw them away when they get dirty, but if you keep them in the case, they'll stay clean quite a while. Sometimes I have to pick the hair out of them after I wake up because my hair tends to get caught in them when I sleep, which can can be annoying. And everything sticks to them, so, if they fall on the floor, they end up looking like nasty boogers.
Customer Review: Mack's silicone earplugs gave me back rest and sanity Summary: 5 Stars
Having a snoring partner and 4 cats (which love to yell once in a while at the door) and being a light sleeper, Mack's silicone earplugs gave me back proper night rest and sanity with that.
They have being doing that great job for me now for years.
The best way to insert them is to place them flat over the ear canal and then turn them while pressing. They'll then seal properly and not go inside the ear canal. If you press too much air in the ear canal (you'll feel the excess pressure) reopen seal in on corner a little bit to let air escape and reseal by turning again.
Normally you can use a pair of these earplugs 3 or 4 days, before they loose their 'stickiness'.
I tried foam, but it does not seal as well, comes loose too easily and requires risky deep penetration of the ear canal, causing damage or infections.
Oh, and my cats also love playing with the silicone Mack's and will even dig in the waste basket for them, so I make sure to hide them :-)
Customer Review: Will never go back to foam earplugs Summary: 5 Stars
I read incessantly and need quite environment at the drop of a hat--at cafes, home, and even the library. I've used foam earplugs until now, but I have small ears (and ear canals) so the foam ones tend to hurt after couple hours of use. These silicone earplugs are perfect because they sit outside the ear canal and stay in place.
It comes in a package of 6 pairs, but I usually split one ball of putty into a pair because my ears are small enough. I would imagine this will last me a long while even with my heavy use.
To be fair, foam earplugs do block out noise a lot better than these. I think there is anywhere from 5 to 15 decibel difference between foam and silicone earplugs (depending on brand & design), but I'm willing to sacrifice total, complete silence to the numerous advantages that the silicone ones provide.
I haven't gone swimming in these, but I'd imagine they will be helpful in such situations as well. Once I finish my exams, I shall experiment in water.
Customer Review: The last earplug you'll ever have to buy Summary: 5 Stars
Hands down, the best earplugs out there. I've tried just about every kind of earplug available. I live in a very noisy part of Hollywood--helicopters day and night, construction, noisy neighbors--and I work from home, so I'd tried brand after brand with limited success. Other brands became painful after wearing them for too long and were uncomfortable to wear overnight. Plus, I wanted to find something that didn't go directly into the ear canal.
These Mack's not only block out heavy duty construction/helicopter noise, but they're also so comfortable at night that I don't even notice they're in. The soft silicone sits just outside the ear canal instead of getting pushed down into it. They never irritate my ears like other brands.
Also, don't go with another silicone brand. I've tried others that look just like these but don't work half as good. These are the real deal. They'll block out serious noise and do so in actual comfort. Amazing!
