Customer Reviews of MagneTrainer-ER Mini Exercise Bike Arm and Leg ExerciserCustomer Review: pretty good bike Summary: 3 Stars
Overall the bike is pretty good. It is very stable and very easy to put together. I was dissappointed that the speedometer quit working after just a few weeks of use. But I would buy it again.
Customer Review: Break a sweat! In two hours! Summary: 2 Stars
I wanted to like this product, I really did. The thing did have solid build quality and didn't feel chintzy, but it just doesn't work very well. First of all, the only way I could get it not to slide around was by having it directly adjacent to my subwoofer on a carpeted floor; even then with each pedal motion it rocked back and forth a little.
Second, the site claims that it's great to use while at your computer desk. Here's the thing, unless you are 3' tall or have a 6 feet tall desk, I don't understand how in the world you would accomplish this. I had the thing under my desk but with the range of motion of the pedaling motion I would have been hitting the desk every time; instead I had to sit way back from the computer in order to not bump my knees.
So do not plan on using a computer while you use this product; I was, however, able to play xbox 360 (with wireless controllers no less) and watch a movie with no problem.
The main issue is that the resistance doesn't go nearly strong enough. Even at the max, it felt like riding a bike in one of the lowest gears. I take that back, it doesn't feel at all like riding a bike; I can't imagine what sort of chair you would have to have (stool maybe?) that would allow you to sit with a normal biking position. In most normal chairs, you're going to keep being pushed backwards.
Pros: It is relatively quiet. Solid construction quality
Cons: Restocking fee + shipping means if you buy this and don't like it, you're out 25% off the bat, plus the shipping you paid to get it to you (probably 15 bucks) plus whatever it costs you to ship it back. I ended up not even bothering returning it and giving it to my younger siblings. Hopefully they get more use out of it.
The resistance might be acceptable to either the elderly or young kids, but for a person with moderate leg strength, it just won't do much for you.
Customer Review: Slip slidin' away Summary: 2 Stars
The stabilizer leg of the Magnetrainer was poorly designed. As some suggested, I placed this unit against the wall so it wouldn't keep sliding away during pedaling. When I did that, the screw that was supposed to hold the stabilizer in place ripped a solid line right through the metal. The velcro straps they provide are a joke. They don't work at all.
What I had to do was use my stair-stepper (I knew it would come in handy for something) against the wall and tilt it up so it was leaning against the bike unit but higher than the stabilizer. I will also use 2 belts normally used to hold my pants up in the back of the bike as additional support.
All Magnetrainer had to do was drill some holes in the stabilizer bar and have the screw go completely through it to provide rigid support. Instead, I have spent hours trying to keep this unit from sliding and stripping the metal when I used the wall to keep it from sliding.
Now this thing looks like a hideous frankenstein bike, but at least I've solved (I hope) all the stability issues and can finally start burning some calories.
2 stars for very poor design. Once all the issues are fixed, then it is a decent way to exercise.
