My son is nearly six and we wanted to get his nighttime wetting stopped before he started sleep overs with his new kindergarten friends. We tried a less expensive alarm, but it wasn't loud enough to wake him (or me!) up. This one, although twice the price, worked from day one. After 2 weeks, he started to stay dry at night. He is even able to wake up and go to the bathroom on his own. The tone we choose is very loud, and the vibrating helps him wake up, too. The only draw back is the pin fastener - I did prefer the magnetic closing device on the other alarm. He's gone nearly 2 weeks with one accident. I have been using this for almost 3 weeks now and so far, my 7-year old daughter has had 3 dry nights. She is finally learning to get up and go to the potty before the alarm sounds.
Though it does work, you better buy a room monitor to use with this! One major flaw in this device is that the alarm is NOT loud enough to wake a parent in another room. If it were, it might be too loud for the child and scare them. The instructions tell you that you must wake up as soon as your child's alarm goes off, in order to make sure they put their feet on the floor and to turn the alarm off for them and help them to the bathroom. This is an important step because it helps build the association between a full bladder, peeing, and hurrying to the potty, in the child's mind. Well, if your bedroom happens to be on the opposite side of your house from your child's room (as mine is), you NEED a baby monitor to hear the alarm and wake up!! I am a really light sleeper, and even with everyone's doors wide open I could not hear the alarm until my child walked accross the house and was standing beside my bed. Also, the unit is pricy for a piece of plastic and some wires (although the booklet claims there are some gold plated parts, it still doesnt justify the cost). For that price it should come WITH a room monitor included, or at the very least, suggest that you buy one from the start.

The alarm worked well for the first few days but then my 8 year old daughter just learned to sleep through it even with the changing tones and vibrator. I would help her out of bed but she was groggy and grouchy and never really woke up. I tried it for 2 weeks then gave up in frustration and decided to try again when she has more will power to wake herself up.Customer Review: Bad decision got worse

I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. My son became sleep-deprived as he would wake up 4 times during the night and it was hard for him to go to school the following day. He was frustrated and as a parent, I was frustrated that you cannot return the item to the manufacturer even if my son didn't use the product we purchased. My son used my nephew's Malem alarm as a trial for two weeks. Speak to your doctor as he might recommend a medication instead with no side effects. It's currently working for my son.
