Customer Reviews of Mark of Fitness MF-46 Auto-Inflate Digital Blood Pressure Monitor

Customer Review: Not Thrilled
Summary: 2 Stars

Bought this for my mother (she has congestive heart failure/high blood pressure)
to replace the old one. When compared with the cuff at the doctor's office, it was 25 points higher on the systolic and 8 points lower on the diastolic readings. Hoped we'd get something more accurate than this.

Customer Review: INFO about monitoring your Blood Pressure
Summary: 1 Stars

I read the reviews on this blood pressure monitor and plan to buy one today.

For those who say this monitor gives unreliable readings compared to the doctor's office, and you recheck readings to get a second number: Your blood pressure reading is not a static number; it changes continuously during every moment of your life and is affected by many things including rest, activity, exercise, pain, stress, disease, medication, biofeedback - almost anything you can think of and things you probably have no idea about!

A good idea would be to take you blood pressure monitor with you to your doctor's office, and let him/her determine if the readings are fairly accurate.

Some people have problems with their blood pressure dropping quickly when they arise to a standing position or bend over, especially if you stand or bend over too quickly (you may need to slow this action down), and this can be a serious problem with some people, making them prone to dizziness and potential falls/injuries. This should be reported to your doctor. This is a common problem which is usually caused by a normal body phenomenom. Your doctor may need to adjust your blood pressure medication, or determine what is causing this unpleasant sensation and/or instruct you on proper body mechanics to make this more tolerable/safer for you.

Your blood pressure can vary by factors other than getting up too quickly from a sitting or lying position to a standing position, it can vary when standing as opposed to sitting, or when being taken in the right arm as opposed to being taken in the left arm. Just by taking your blood pressure twice in close succession, the pressure will change, and waiting a period of time will also give you a different reading.

Monitoring your blood pressure at home is a valuable tool you can use to assist your doctor in determining if your blood pressure remains within an acceptable range. Any wide variances or unusually high or low blood pressure readings should be reported to your doctor; this includes any abnormal or irregular pulse readings, too (the number of times your heart beats in one minute's time, which ideally should be between 60 to 100 beats per minute). Your pulse, just like your blood pressure, changes constantly and is also affected by the many factors that influence the blood pressure.

In layman's terms, the TOP number of your blood pressure reading is the SYSTOLIC blood pressure reading, and it represents the pressure in your vessels when the heart is beating. The BOTTOM number of your blood pressure reading is the DIASTOLIC blood pressure, and it represents the pressure remaing in your vessels when the heart is at rest. Which number is most important is open to debate, and the general concensus about this changes back and forth, as well as the normal parameters of the blood pressure reading. When any question or concern arises about your blood pressure, your 'go-to' person should always be your personal physician, not your family friend or someone you know who works in the medical field.

FOR THE MOST ACCURATE BLOOD PRESSURE READING:

Place the blood pressure cuff over a bare arm, snugly but not tightly. In most people, using the left arm is preferred, unless you've received major trauma to the left arm, or you are aware that there is a great variance in blood pressure readings when one arm is used as opposed to the other (in that case, you should speak with your physician and let him/her determine which arm will give you the most accurate reading).

The tubing that attaches the blood pressure cuff to the machine should be at the anticubital area of the arm, which in the inside part of the arm at the elbow - so that the palm of the hand is facing up, and the arm should be in a straight position, not bent.

The arm should be in a relaxed position, without any strain being placed on it to keep it straight - so rest your arm on the arm of a chair or sofa or a table, or place a pillow under the arm to support it, as a few examples. If someone else is taking your blood pressure, he/she can support your arm for you, so that your arm is totally relaxed.

When in doubt, always contact your doctor - although most of us know that this almost always means call your doctor's nurse's answering machine and wait for him/her to have time to check the messages and call you back - not always the same day! lol If your reading is critical, go to the emergency room of a hospital, rather than waiting for your doctor to call you back.

Each and every person is precious and more important than most of us know, so take please take good care of yourself...

Customer Review: piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

This item is useless. Readings are inaccurate and frightening if you have high blood pressure already. I purchased this for my husband to monitor his high blood pressure and the readings were all over the place and not once was it accurate. He took it with him on his most recent Dr's visit to ask the Dr. if he was using it correctly and the Dr. said it was a useless piece of junk and to throw it away. Need I say more ? Don't waste your money.

Customer Review: Wouldn't recommend
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased item so I could keep a record of my Blood pressure, this product never gave the same reading twice even with taking my pressure 10 times in an hour! I did this off an on for several days and finally gave up on getting a reading worth using.... I would not recommend this item an have returned mine.

Customer Review: Does not work properly
Summary: 1 Stars

Had to return this b/p cuff. Could not get it to work properly. Medical devices need to be made a great deal better than this one...
