Customer Reviews of Medline Overbed Table, Composite TopCustomer Review: Nice table, ok mechanism, bad instructions Summary: 3 Stars
I've just assembled the table. The table itself looks quite pretty, with a matted light grey composite top finish and steel supporting equipment. However, the instructions are not the best. It's not hard to assemble this until the last part. However while fitting the table top on, make sure the verticle bar is in the lowest position and holding it there, make sure the up/down lever is in the lock position (not pulled up towards the table top) and fix the three screws in while holding the above positions. Then after its assembled, it's easier to slide it up and down. This is not mentioned in the instructions and without it, the table won't slide up/down and I had to try various things before I realized doing the above would work. After assembly the up/down slide is not very smooth as indicated in the previous reviews, but it works.
Also the table is only about a little over a foot across your bed, even when its right next to the bed. They should have made the table much longer. Right now I can only fit one book on it or my laptop if I sit at the VERY edge of the bed.
Update: I have been using this table for about 4 months now. I stopped using it as a bedside table and use it with a chair as a mobile laptop desk and love it. Although it does fall a bit short in size over the bed, it still works great, the up-down mechanism works well with use, the quality of this table is really good and it looks pretty sleek and its still working really great and I'm expecting it to last a really long time. Upon using this for a while, I would definately recommend this, unless you need a lot of desk space (right now, I can just about fit a magazine and a laptop on it, side-by-side). Overall, a good buy.
Customer Review: Useful Table, but Poor Assembly Instructions Summary: 3 Stars
Medline has changed the majority of the assembly parts on their Overbed Table but hasn't changed the assembly instructions. To be specific; the instruction sheet shows a Release Lever to be installed which you will not find in the parts bag, because you will eventually discover it as a permanent part of the table top. The Column Assembly no longer has a rectangular "L" base, but now has a flat plate. The instructions show a "Top Bracket" with bolt holes on the sides to hold the "L" base to the table top . Since there's no longer an "L" base, there's no longer a top bracket either. So except for the instructions to snap the wheel casters into the frame, the Medline instructions are almost completely wrong. The model numbers on the instruction sheet match the model number on the shipping box.
The outdated assembly instructions are extremely unfortunate because Medline actually made assembly easier and probably made the table sturdier. But I think many purchasers may be under stress from either their own poor health or their loved ones and the last thing they need are confusing assembly instructions.
Customer Review: Overbed Table Summary: 2 Stars
Was expecting the product to be better given the many good reviews. The table top that they sent was stained, making it look dirty even after it is wiped down and cleaned. Everytime I would use it to write, the whole top would shake and wobble over the bottom and make a lot of noise. The lever that raises the table up and down I think, is what is making all the noise. I was expecting it to be more stable but it is not. If it was not a hassle to repack, dismantle and return it, I would and get something else.
Customer Review: Looks Good But... Summary: 1 Stars
Table looked great, nice chromed steel parts, excellent welds, however...assembly instructions did not match parts received; the relationship of the lever on the table to the rod that went into the stand was not well shown and did not work. I disassembled the verticle mechanism and found a failed part. The 800 number did not answer on the weekend and today (a Tuesday) when I called I received no explanation.
Finally and most important when I tried the table next to the bed, it would only stay in the highest position, I found that 30" is not long enough to go in front of a person in the bed. I checked and actual hospital bed table and found that it measured 36" inches.
Buyer beware...
