I bought this chair for a trip to Boston. A small woman, I was able to lift it in and out of the rental car with no problem, although I did rent a large car - Hertz called it premium size. Very easy to fold and unfold, it is only slightly bigger than a very large baby stroller so we were able to use it in the airport as well as in Boston. A airlines employee must roll it down the gateway (for security and liability reasons, I was told) but otherwise I was able to wheel my mother all over the airport.
I had some difficulty getting her over some thresholds but since she can stand up unassisted, in worst cases she got up, stepped over the threshold, I pushed the empty chair over the threshold and then she immediately sat down again. The chair worked fine otherwise.
We had no trouble with the wheels, they were composite rubber, and in fact they got hard use as many of the surfaces in Boston are uneven and in a few locations I actually pushed her over cobblestones.
I was pleasantly surprised that there was no charge for 2 days shipping and it arrived on the schedule promised by Amazon. So if you are a procrastinator, the chair will arrive as promised, given our experience.
Lastly I wanted to "buy local" but the best price I could get in my area was $295, plus 9.25% tax and that was just too much of a difference for me to buy it locally, unfortunately.
