Customer Review: Progress is the Best!

Won't spend a lot of time of why I'm switching back to DE shaves...others have accounted for cost, quality issues previously. All I know is that I became increasingly dissatisfied with crummy, expensive shaves from electric and Gillette that left my face burning all day long. Enough. Started doing some research on the internet, ran into the re-surging movement to DE wet shaving and ultimately Merkur.
First adjustment after reviewing product evaluations here on Amazon, was to move to a good shave cream and brush. That change alone made a huge difference even when using a SensorExcel razor. Conditioning the face properly and getting the "goo" out of the routine made a huge difference.
As a first pass into the DE world, I started with the Merkur 180 long handle thinking I would need the long handle because of big hands. After spending a week of trying to get the guts to try it out (thinking I would slash myself and not realizing that the other key operative phrase in DE shaving was "safety razor"...HELLO?) I gave it a shot and got the best shave I've had in 40+ years. Then I took a look at UTube and found Mantic 59 and really got going.
While the 180 was doing a good job, I came across Mantic's videos on the Progress and other adjustables and ordered the Progress based on Mantic's assertions that "while not recommending the razor (yeah, right!), it was his daily razor and that you would "have to pry it out of his cold, dead hands". Was a little concerned about its size and other issues but I just had to try this and ordered one right here on Amazon...yes the shaving supply acquisition dis-order had already set in.
Received it last week and have never looked back. Much more aggressive than the 180 while not shredding my face. The "short" version works fine with my large hands. And for the first time, I'm able to get those stinking spots under my neck without burn or bumps.
JEEEZ! What a difference! May make a change to a "Mergress long handle" that has solved some of the issues with dial-in calibration and replacement of the knob with one that is stainless steel and a longer handle, but right now I am perfectly happy. Those changes, when they occur, will be marginal. The switch to a Progress is different. Now you will have to pry it out of my hands when I'm dead. Great little razor.
