I wish everyone could try these crutches, they were wonderful to use! I have shown them to my doctors, and my physical therapists were intrigued with them. Unfortunately, most patients are automatically given the standard wooden or aluminum crutches after an injury, unaware of the option of a more comfortable and user-friendly choice.
After 6 weeks of using traditional aluminum crutches for a knee stress fracture, I developed painful carpal tunnel in my hands with numbness, tingling, and nerve zaps. I knew I was headed for trouble since I use a computer all day when working. I was scheduled for arthroscopic knee surgery and would have to continue using crutches for up to another 6 weeks.
I searched online for "ergonomic crutches" and found Millennial Medical's website. I was impressed with their information and bio-mechanical engineering. My knee surgeon wrote a prescription for ergonomic crutches so part of the cost would be covered by health insurance.
Amazon's $49.95 with FREE SHIPPING(!) was the absolute best price I could find. The crutches arrived within five days, and were easy to assemble. The seller chose the color, and I received a respectable metallic gray pair. I wish I had gotten the bright red or blue, because these crutches deserve to be noticed, and I was happy to show them off to anyone who asked.
I loved the spring loaded tips, they took the shock rather than my shoulders and wrists. The open underarm design provided a rocker motion that propelled me forward, and the downward angle of the hand rests made all the difference. The pain in my hands subsided quickly, and the strain in my shoulders and neck was relieved. The folding feature is a great benefit, especially in restaurants or when shopping with the handicapper "go-carts" that many stores now provide.
I would recommend these crutches for anyone facing a planned surgery. Order them now! I am a solid convert, having received relief from potentially long-term nerve damage to my hands.
