Customer Reviews of NOW Foods Peppermint Oil, 1 ouncesCustomer Review: Now Foods Pure Peppermint Oil Summary: 5 Stars
I am using this product for pest (mice) control as our building is under construction and this has recently become an issue.
NOTE: It must be 100% pure Peppermint Oil - which Now Foods Peppermint oil is.
The peppermint oil works really, really well for me on the cotton balls but here is what I suggest:
Be careful how much you use on the cotton ball because it is very, very, very strong. Test your tolerance for it by using a tip of the bottle on the cotton ball at first and increasing it if you can tolerate it because remember you are using it in many places throughout the house. Make sure you refresh the cotton balls often as needed. I put it in every closet, behind the stove - in the bathroom on the far corner of the tub and I even put it on my countertops in the beginning.
I have read you can also make a spray from it but I have not done this as I live in an apartment. DO NOT SPRAY IN THE HOME!! because there is no way to remove it once you spray - but with cotton balls you can just pick them up to remove them if they are too strong and even then the smell can linger. As I said be careful with the cotton balls as well. You can make the Peppermint Oil spray starting with 2 teaspoons (or 2 tablespoons - sorry I'm not sure which - try 2 teaspoons first) to one cup water in a spray gun. re-spray areas every 6 months. Apparently mice are allergic to peppermint.
Peppermint Oil is pet friendly and what I like about it is that it is a DETERRENT - not a trap. My neighbor uses traps but I firmly believe this can attract and re-attract the mice because of the food you put in them and I believe that even if you catch them the food scent lingers. I think this attracts them as well where Peppermint Oil absolutely repels them.
I am so relieved that I found this solution and that is has been working so well. Eventually when the construction stops maybe I will not have a problem but as long as I have the peppermint oil - I am very happy with the results - NO MICE!
Customer Review: Surprisingly high-quality Summary: 5 Stars
I've always been a bit weary when I buy the cheapest brand of a certain item, but I'd had success with NOW products before (albeit not with NOW essential oils), so I decided to order it.
I've been using it for two months now, and as far I can tell, it is a high quality product. I've heard that peppermint oil should have a powerful scent and should burn the skin if applied liberally, and this product meets both of those criteria, so I have every reason to believe that this is the real stuff, and not diluted at all. I use it on my skin diluted with jojoba oil, and I use about half a cap's worth a day, so it should last me another couple months or so. It has an instant cooling effect that lasts for several hours, even after I wash it off (and I DO recommend that you wash it off unless you want to go around smelling like slightly rancid peppermint oil. This stuff is strong.)
I'd imagine that anybody who'd want to use it for aromatherapy purposes would love it just as much as I love to use it on my skin. It has a powerful, but a relaxing and pleasant, scent.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product, and I will be buying it again just as soon as I run out.
Customer Review: Got This For Mice, But Great Breath Frehener Too! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for mice and it seems to be working. The house smells minty, the mice are gone, and it even makes your breath smell good too. It says to dilute with water before using in your mouth, and believe me, you should. It is not sweet, so if you choose to, add some sugar. I just put a dab on my finger, and it was so strong, but my breath smelled so good. I would rather use traps to kill the mice, but you have to touch them, they smell if you don't get them in time, and some are touchy and get your fingers if you know what I mean. All in all, I got 5 1oz bottles for $3.00 and some change which was a FANTASTIC BUY!!! The price is raised now, so I would probably just get 1, but it is worth it. I have also used it on a cotton ball, stuck it in my heat vents, and everyone that has came over has commented on how good the house smells. Especially at Christmas, it just smells like candy canes! I have put a cotton ball with this stuff on it in the vacuum and when I vacuum, the smell is wonderful. Placed some in my car, Shed, Cabinets, Heat vents, Mouth, Vacuum, and in my walls I am building while finishing my basement. All in all, 5 thumbs up for this stuff! So many things you can use it for!
Customer Review: Bought this to chase away the mice Summary: 5 Stars
Last winter (after my last cat died) I found mice were visiting several drawers and cupboards in my kitchen (leaving their droppings behind as evidence); preliminary and uncomfortable efforts to trap them were only modestly helpful. After some searching I found people suggesting peppermint oil to deter mice. Feeling dubious but since it was a small investment I tried the peppermint oil and, voila! It really really works. They may still be there behind the walls of course, but they no longer visit my cupboards & drawers. A little dab on a cotton pad every few days in their favorite spots has completely eliminated their visits. Some reviewers complained about the smell but I found it mild and not unpleasant. Certainly preferable to the hygiene concerns of the droppings. The little 4oz bottle is still 3/4 full after four months so it ends up being inexpensive. I'm still working on finding a more permanent (humane) solution but meanwhile this is a wonderful find (second only to getting cats again - I'm told the cats don't actually have to catch them - the mice recognize their scent and stay away).
Customer Review: Yum! Summary: 5 Stars
This oil smells great, tastes great. I've used it in cooking, beverages, home-made candles, home-made laundry soap and hand soap, table-top fountains, bath salts (just let some oil soak into epsom salts), diffuser, and a few drops in shoes that could use the boost in the right odor-direction. It's worked out great for everything. I haven't actually tried burning the (gel) candles, yet, we are still enjoying them for their appearance and scent. I was a little nervous buying this on-line, but it turned out to be a nice purchase. The lid does not have a dropper, so be aware that you will need your own if you plan to dispense the oil that way.
