I bought my light about 4 1/2 years ago because my psychologist recommended getting one. (Even in Texas SAD can be an issue....I am very sensitive to the amount of sunlight I get.) After lots of online research, I chose this one because of price, aesthetics,and the negative ion. Last winter I did not use my light and I think it made such a huge difference in how I felt because I did not use it. I have gone back to it and within just a few days, I am able to get up in the morning and feel like I am ready to go. Without it, I can barely get up in the morning to get to work. The negative ionizer does have a unique smell but I enjoy it. At first I thought it was weird but then I could almost sense the ocean in the air. I use it for 30-45 minutes a day and since I deal with depression all year long, I probably ought to use it all year long! I would definitely buy another.Customer Review: No More Fatigue

I currently live in the Keweenaw, which is the peninsula the jets out from the top of Michigan's UP. We get between 250-350 inches of snowfall per year. That means a lot of dark, cloud covered days. I have had terrible fatigue for over 2 years now and have tried everything from increased exercise to taking Vitamin D and with minimal results.
As a last resort I purchased this sun lamp and I must say, I have had it a week and already do I feel better. I put it on the end table next to my couch and use it while I study. I do use it for a longer period than suggested because it is also an excellent reading light. As stated by others, the ionizer feature does give off a bit of a smell, but its tolerable. Overall, I think this is an amazing buy and recommend it for anyone who lives in a place with limited sun exposure. Its amazing to finally have energy again.

I suffer from SAD, which starts in the fall and doesn't end until well into spring. I decided to give this lamp a try, and I am so happy that I did. After about 3 days of use - mornings and sometimes mornings and afternoons - I noticed that I was feeling a lot less down-in-the-dumps. It really does work and has helped me a lot. The directions say that if you use transitional glasses, you should remove them while being in front of the lamp. i called the manufacturer and was told that this is because when your glasses turn dark, the effectiveness of the light is diminished. My glasses do not turn as dark as they do when I go out into the sun, but I remove them and replace them with plain reading glasses whenever I can. I normally wear no-line bifocals and cannot use plain reading glasses when I am using the lamp while working at the computerCustomer Review: Good lamp- one Q

I really love this lamp, I find it soothing. I felt better after one week. Since then I have been bad about using it everyday, but when I do I notice a spike in my energy. It's especially good to sit in front of after a long day, before going to a night shift at work or rehearsal (as i often do!).
As far as the ionizer, I didn't really understand what it was until after I bought the lamp. I had been suffering from allergies/cold for about a month and gradually my symptoms vanished. I don't know whether it had anything to do wit the lamp or not, but I didn't notice any weird smell that the other reviews talk about.
However, I have one Q- Would this type of lamp have any effect on indoor plant growth? I ask only because I want my little cacti to survive the chicago winter!!

I purchase this lamp because I work in an office with no windows all day. I found that by December I was dragging my feet and feeling quite tired for no reason. I know about S.A.D and also about lacking Vitamin D. I started doing some research on line about these lamps and decided to try this one.
I've used it daily for a month and can feel a difference in my energy levels. I turn it on in the morning while I check my emails and sit for 30 mins. The timer turns the lamp off automatically. The ionizer doesn't bother me but if you find you don't like it you can turn it off. My fear was that the light would damage my skin creating sun spots but I haven't notice any changes. The size is compact enough to fit next to my laptop without any hassles and I can store it away easily. I would recommend this lamp.
