I initially decided to get this because I thought that anything with the Neosporin name must be good. I'm sure that's what the marketing people thought, too. But what does an expertise in antibiotic ointment have to do with fixing chapped lips? Nothing, really. In fact, there's little in common between the neosporin your mom put on your cuts and this. Regardless, it's very effective. I live in Boston and it gets very dry in the winter. I've tried Blistex (my former favorite), Burt's Bee's, Chapstick, and Origin's. This is the most effective in reducing the pain of, and healing, chapped lips. I don't know why, and it's not like I did a scientific study, but that was my experience. It doesn't have the nice menthol cooling feel of Blistex, which I miss a bit, but that's really not important; it just covers the symptoms, not solve the problem. This product is also a fairly effective (SPF20) sunblock, helping to prevent the problem of chapped lips to begin with.
So, truth be told, there's probably no reason to buy this because it says "Neosporin" on the package. That's just pure marketing. But it worked well, better than anything else I've tried. And that's a pretty good reason.
