Customer Review: Simply Fabulous, and quite frankly, Awesome

I've been using this filter system for TWENTY YEARS. Need I say more? OK, I will. My hair and skin are awesome. My peers use conditioner on their hair... me? rarely. And, I usually have long hair. (fine, blonde) I can go a month or more without using lotion on my skin as long as I am getting enough EFA's from my food. I have used this system in Washington, D.C.; Arlington, VA; Los Angeles, CA; and now in Salem, OR. The latter two have very hard water. Until I have great well water I'll keep using it. And even then if the water is really hard I may still. I really notice the difference when I visit family back East as they don't have this in their shower.
PS The housing that holds the cartridge is just starting to look like it is going to split vertically at the threads that connect to the water inlet pipe do-hicky. I noticed that the last filter change I did. Hows that for value on the dollar, easy-ish on the Environment etc? It will be interesting to see how much longer I can get out of the housing before the plastic just shatters.

I agree this filter probably does not make a shower "chlorine-free" But for heavily chlorinated water there is a huge difference. I also notice the filter removes many of the minerals/chemicals from old city pipes & systems. There is physical proof in my family's hair that turns mousey brown (no matter what shampoo/conditioner we try) without the filter and a couple of week with the filter returned to our strawberry red. No so many in this city dye their hair!
My replacement filter (#3, I've had this product for 4 years) just came in and there is not one sentence that says the filter removes 100% chlorine. The filter produces what the box says, softens hard water, removes chlorine (the box/insert states the amount of chlorine depends on the water) stopping brittle, dried hair and itchy, rashy skin the chlorine causes, stops the hard water damage to the shower head, tub, and walls. I also went to the store to read the box and insert for the initial product (filter and housing) and again NO mention of removing 100% chlorine.

The municipal water where I live has so much chlorine and other things in the water that you can easily smell it in the shower. Because of that, my skin and hair were just about always dry. Chlorine is added to municipal water to kill living things such as bacteria and virii, and since we're living things, it tries to kill us too. Unlike a pool, most people shower every day at least once.
In the shower, your skin absorbs this chemical and you inhale the chlorine gas when it steams up. This is highly toxic to your body.
Installation of this filter was a breeze. I'm absolutely horrible at most do-it-yourself things, but this took me less than five minutes to install, and that includes finding a wrench.
After only a short time of using it, my skin is softer, my hair is manageable and soft and easy to comb, I use much less soap and shampoo, and I feel generally better; healthier.
I would highly recommend this filter. The feeling and health benefits far exceed the cost.

Chlorine and other chemicals can wreak havoc on skin and hair, not to mention the harmful effects it can have on the respiratory system. You know the rule, if you don't want to eat it, don't put it on your skin. If you drink filtered water, you might want to consider putting a filter on your shower as well.
Ultimately I would like a full house filter system, but those are expensive. But for now I have a good drinking water filter in the kitchen and this New Wave Enviro shower filter as an immediate solution for the shower.
My skin used to be dry after leaving the shower and I'd need to apply a lot of lotion. Not anymore! I'm certain it's the filter. I don't have any sort of chlorine tester so I can't be scientific about it, but it feels better. The price is great, and they sell replacement filters for yearly change-out. It's easy to install, you just need a wrench and about five minutes.
