When I looked into getting the 8890xl,the main questions I had were how it compared to the mach3 and the 6865xl which is what I had until I replaced it with the 8890. The results were great. The 8890xl gives a great shave on my whole face including under the jawline. I have a pretty "hard" hair and 8890xl takes care of it without any problems whatsoever. The mach3 might give a closer shave (by VERY LITTLE), but the fact I was constantly cut when I used it and the fact I don't always have time to shave for 10 minutes a day defiantely makes the 8890xl well worth it.
I was hesitant to buy the 8890 when I already had my old norelco, 6865 which I bought a few years ago. I used to use this shaver as a "pre-mach3" shave. It would miss hairs all over the place and even the ones it got were definately not cut as closely as what I get now with the 8890xl. If you have an older norelco and you are hesitant about getting a new one because you don't think it can improve all that much, I would highly suggest giving it a try. It doesn't have to be the 8890 (8825 and up are all the same shaving wise except for the LED battery life indicator), but think about upgrading. I would say it's well worth it.
