Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-637 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Positioning Sensor

Customer Review: Accurate, reliable, convenient
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a home health RN recently liberated from hospital practice. As such I am used to a variety
of gadgets, but electronic BP machines in hospitals still require arm cuffs. Because people come
in all sizes, so must the BP cuffs to obtain accurate measurements. In home health it's
cumbersome to lug around equipment, so I researched wrist cuffs and settled on the
Omron Model 637. Dubious of this new gadget, I continued my research at patient's homes for
3 months, first measuring an arm cuff pressure, waiting a few minutes, and then taking a
wrist pressure with the Omron device. The results of my little research project convinced me
of the accuracy and convenience of this product.

I take blood pressures on a variety of arm sizes. I can now leave the large and small adult
arm cuffs in my car trunk, just in case. In 2 years, I hadn't needed them until recently. A few
weeks ago, thieves broke into my car trunk, and stole my nursing bag which contained the
Omron cuff. And here I am, buying another one just as fast as I can. Stay away from the
drug store models; I tried them briefly and they don't compare in reliability.

P.S. Thank you to my patients who allowed me to test this product. Many of my patients are
delighted with this product calling it "cool, " "nifty," etc., and call their family members to
take a look. Many have since bought this Omron HEM-637.

Customer Review: Nice device!
Summary: 5 Stars

After being diagnosed with mild hypertension, I wanted a device that I could take with me everywhere. A standard arm cuff is a bit too bulky. My physician recommended against a wrist monitor, but I still looked around. I found an article in the American Journal of Hypertension which compared the HEM-637 with a standard cuff and found that it agreed quite well when used with the APS. So I went ahead and got it. Amazon came through again with a very prompt delivery even with the Super Saver free shipping. And I haven't been disappointed with the monitor. It has been giving me very stable and consistent readings (I periodically cross-check with my wife's arm cuff). The monitor is nicely made and is very easy to use. I only wish that the US model was supplied with the USB cable and software, as the European version is. I would very much like to be able to download the readings to a spreadsheet. The monitor does have a nice graphing feature itself, allowing you to look at a week's worth of readings, either all, or only the mornings or only the evenings, so the lack would only result in a half a ding...

Customer Review: Outstanding
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used the HEM-637 in conjunction with the Omron Pedometer(that came with software and USB-2 cable for about $24)for about 3 months now and nothing but good comments to report. Contary to other reviews I found that the BP monitor(with the purchase of a USB-1 cable(at Walmart, Radio Shack, etc)interfaces perfectly with the PC software and allows me to track both BP and walking performance. Omron email support said port on BP monitor was for European model w/printer. Omron telephone support gave me source and ID for the necessary cable.
BP unit is easy to use after get used to proper position (e.g use 2 or 3 times.) I have tried several BP cuffs over the years and find this unit much, much easier to use. Tracks well within limits versus the DR's office cuff. The software printed output is of value to the Dr. to see weekly/monthly results vs the one time reading in their office that varies high due to "white jacket syndrome." Maintains a log of date/time of each reading as well as graphiong results in various formats.
An excellent purchase but price varies greatly so shop around.

Customer Review: I love it and I wish the clinics would go to a wrist monitor!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had mine for over a year and I love it. The readings are pretty accurate and when my blood pressure began to rise recently, I monitored my blood pressure for several hours. It was climbing higher and it was enough to finally convince me to seek medical attention. It also showed that one of the meds my cardiologist gave me to bring my blood pressure down had a negative impact on my blood pressure as it caused me pressure to drop down to 90 over 45! I was able to relay this information to my doctor and he adjusted my meds as a result of this. Had I not had this blood pressure monitor to check my blood pressure, I would not have known what was wrong or what to tell my doctor.

My daughter thinks she should have one of these for her family.

Also .... I dislike the arm Blood Pressure cuffs as they are quite painful for me and the wrist cuff is not painful at all. I wish the clinics and hospitals would use a wrist cuff!!

I highly recommend this product!!! It is worth evey penny!!

Customer Review: Accurate Wrist BP Monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

I compared it to the best rated the WalMart brand ReliOn brand It matched the readings within a 1 to 2 points. I made sure that my ReliOn was accurate using a stethoscope and also by comparing with a manual unit many times.

HEM-637 is quiter and much smaller than the ReliOn. One feature I like is that it does not start unless held in the correct poisition. The key is to hold the hand steady, not move, or talk. To hold the arm steady, rest the plam just below the opposite shoulder. Also, make sure that the wrist does not touch the chest to avoid getting erroneous reading.

It is, however, $30 more expensive than the ReliOn. Consider purchasing it if you are a traveller or have uncontrolled BP. It will allow you to track BP under various stress conditions (work) without being noticed.

It stores 99 readings with date and time making recoredkeeping easy. The lack of PC software is not an issue for me. I find manual recordkeeping is faster and quite adequate.
