Customer Reviews of Omron HEM-711AC Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor with Standard CuffCustomer Review: I prefer this to the Hem-780 Summary: 5 Stars
I fully agree with the reviews by the 'Concerned Reader'. I had also looked at the same 2 models, this one and the Hem-780, and and am very glad I chose this, the cheaper, option. Apart from the memory being a little smaller (60 vs 90 readings) and the non-Comfit cuff, the machine itself is more or less the same in terms of accuracy and other functions. In fact, I prefer the regular type cuff to the Comfit one, which in practice can be quite bulky and requires a larger case to accommodate, so is not so portable.
I also like the fact it is fairly quiet in operation (some machines make a lot of noise and beeping during the reading process, which can be distracting). The irregular heartbeat indicator, though not exactly required, is an extra useful feature. In fact, I am surprised the Hem-780 does not have this function, which is available as standard on most new bp monitors these days.
One criticism is the fact Omron has incorporated the 'On/off' and 'Start' buttons into one, which means it is quite easy to start the machine accidentally when traveling (Omron's older bp monitor models used to have 2 separate buttons). Beware there are no batteries included, and 4AA's are required. However, the included AC adapter is probably all you need when not traveling. Also beware the AC adaptor is not the travel type so can only be used with US 110 voltage - I am from the UK, so will need to purchase a separate voltage transformer).
Size wise, the newer style Omron bp monitors are a little smaller in dimensions compared with older models, but the case is also unnecessarily high, again making it slightly bulky for traveling purposes.
Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this machine for home use. At this price, it is excellent value for money.
Customer Review: Quick, easy, accurate Summary: 5 Stars
Two of the previous reviewers noted that their monitors didn't accurately read their blood pressure. I'm wondering if they made the same mistake that I made with my first two readings. My first two readings were 20 points higher than normal!! And then I read the instructions and realized that the air pump had to be on the same side as the palm of your hand. Tried a third time, making sure I had the air pump properly positioned. The next reading was normal. What a relief.
When I was researching which monitor to get, I debated between the Omron HEM-780 and this one. For whatever reason, the HEM-780 sells more on Amazon. The only advantages I could see, however, were that it had a larger cuff, a so-called Comfit cuff, and saves the last 90 readings rather than the last 60. What sold me on this unit, however, was a feature that the HEM-780 doesn't have -- an irregular heart beat indicator (not mentioned in the Amazon.com description but shown in the PDF of the owner's manual at www.omronhealthcare.com). Since the 9"-13" upper arm cuff was fine for me, I bought this unit and it's perfect for my needs. The Omron technology is otherwise the same for both units and the cuff on this unit is also comfortable so no need for the Comfit cuff. If you need a larger cuff (up to 17"), buy the HEM-780. If not, save the $12, get the same technology with the added bonus of the irregular heart beat indicator.
Customer Review: Just what the doctor ordered Summary: 5 Stars
I have this unit about one month now and am very impressed with it. You shouldn't have any trouble getting consistent readings if you read and follow the instructions carefully. Make sure the cuff is applied correctly to your left arm about a 1/2" above the elbow, the arrow on the cuff points to the inside of the elbow on the cuff, centered with the middle finger. The right arm could be used too. I suspect that if the unit is off it may be reading a "little" high, which of course is much better than a little low, but I'm not sure given the variability of blood pressure and the many variables than can effect readings slightly. It is consistent though.
My only misgiving about this unit is the limited functionality of the memory, particularly the inability to store reading for two people and not being able to store readings on a memory card or plug it in to a computer USB port to download readings to a spreadsheet so the data could be further analyzed and graphed. But, as this memory functionality was never advertised and given the price of this excellent unit, I gave it 5 stars. I would have gladly paid more if this data accessibility were an added function.
Customer Review: Excellent BP monitor Summary: 5 Stars
Before purchasing this product, I was using an old, manual unit that was showing signs of age as far as accuracy and had very few features. The Omron unit has the features I need and appears to be accurate, based on the readings I have seen at my doctor's office. The self inflating cuff is a really nice feature. The display is large and easy to read, is laid out nicely, and gives systolic, diastolic and pulse readings at a glance. The memory holds the last 30 readings and gives an average of BP and pulse at the touch of a button. The unit also has a plug-in DC power supply that I find really nice. No more replacing batteries. The unit also records irregular heartbeats, but as far as I know I don't have that condition so I can't speak to how well that option works.
I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and my old unit was giving some very scary and unreliable readings. In order to accurately monitor my blood pressure I needed a reliable, accurate unit and the Omron 711AC does the job for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this unit.
Customer Review: Very Accurate and Easy to Use Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent product. I read many reviews and looked at a lot of these monitors. When I recieved it, I was impressed with the high quality of the materials. It looks like what you would see in a doctor's office. It is heavy and solid. It comes with a carrying case so you can take it with you.
It is very easy to use. Put the adjustable strap on your arm, push one button, and away you go. The readings are quite accurate. I have taken this to the doctor's office twice to test against their monitor. The readings were exactly the same. It allows you to take several measurements and average them, which is quite helpful. It has an "irregular heartbeat" indicator that gives peace of mind when it doesn't indicate! It also keeps measurements in memory but I don't use that because I keep a separate log on my home computer.
Lastly, it works by battery or with the plug-in adaptor. I have used both and the battery life is quite good.
I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone.
