Customer Reviews of Omron HJ-303 Pocket PedometerCustomer Review: Unobtrusive pedometer works well Summary: 5 Stars
My physician suggested this particular brand & model of pedometer to use as part of my weight loss program. I had never before used a pedometer, but the ones I remembered required you to wear them on your shoes or around your ankle. Not so this one! I actually clip it inside clothing, next to my skin, and I don't feel it or even remember that I have it on. It seems very accurate, and the small size is a bonus. Best of all, it doesn't matter what angle the pedometer is ... upright, upside down, sideways .... it still records accurately!
The only complaint I have is minor: I found it hard to set up because: (a) to attach the strap, you have to push it through one hole and out another (I ended up pulling it out the second hole with a small fondue fork), (b) I couldn't figure out how to open the "jaws" of the small clip that attaches to the strap (you bend a part at the end farthest from the jaws and the jaws pop open), and (c) I had trouble establishing the initial settings.
Once I had it set up, I loved it. It serves the purpose and provides me a realistic evaluation of how sedentary or active I am each day.
Customer Review: Best pedometer I have ever had Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't had a pedometer in years. I had a good one back in the '90's and remembered that it was an Omron and that while it had issues (mostly that I have a large stomach which seem to make it giggle and therefore read higher than it should) it was overall a nice way to get feedback.
I had no idea that there were pedometers that could go in your pocket or purse. So I was excited about this one. And it hasn't disappointed. It's very accurate. The track I often walk says it's 1.3 miles around but I worried it was not (someone told me they removed part of it to make a playground) but when I got my pedometer I went out and walked it and sure enough it registered 1.3.
Well, actually the first time I walked it it measured .9 and I was really upset but my spouse said we should remeasure my stride since we measured it in the house the first time. Sure enough, after the measurement outside, when I walked the track I came up with 1.3. So, learn from my mistake, measure your stride outside where there is no goal for you to walk to.
Customer Review: Great reinforcement for walking! Summary: 5 Stars
I really like this little pedometer. I've had so many pedometers you would think I collect them (hmmmm...maybe I do now!) This one is easy to set. It has a removable beltclip that is easy to install and holds comfortably on my waistband. With other pedometers I've had problems with them popping off if I bend over or sit down. This one is small so doesn't get that same upwards pressure on it when I move that way. It is easy to slip in a front pants pocket and small enough to work well in a shirt pocket as well (although I haven't used it that way). I haven't tried it in my purse, but I suspect it would work that way as well since it handles being carried in my pocket just fine and I've also tried carrying it in my hand to test the accuracy there. I think I've bought my last pedometer...I love this one. I really like being able to see just how many steps I've taken and that it encourages me to keep moving toward my 10,000 steps a day. And, it's small and light enough that I often forget I'm even wearing it!
Customer Review: Finally, a reliable pedometer Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my share of pedometers over the years, including two digital display models, and none have been accurate enough to satisfy my desire to know exactly how far I have walked. This one finally met my expectations and more. Other models I have had would miss steps at random or required VERY deliberate steps to register. I took this unit out and tried it in several different positions: in my pocket, on my belt and in my hand. I walked on a bike trail with mile markers and, after the first mile, the unit read .8 miles. I calculated that I had to adjust my stride length in the settings. The second mile, and every mile thereafter, were amazingly accurate. I could hold the unit in my hand and watch it register every step I made without fail. It has more options than I personally will ever use since I just want to know distance and steps taken. As long as I keep my paces consistent, the accuracy is more precise than I have ever seen in a pedometer, by far. Try it, you'll like it.
Customer Review: Omron HJ-303 Summary: 5 Stars
I feel that this product is excellent. I had never had a pedometer before and simply wanted something that I could put in my pocket or carry in my pack and not worry about it. At the end of the walk or day, I wanted to know how far I went. However, when I started researching pedometers, I found that different pedometers had 1, 2, or 3 acceleromters, had to be worn just so, etc. This one seemed to have the freedom of use, simplicity of operation, and useful features that I was looking for. It comes with a handy belt clip and strap or it can be dropped into a pocket (my style) on the way out the door. It seems to be very accurate (I compared walks through my neighborhood against the odometer of my car). It counts steps, mileage, and calories on a per trip and per day basis and maintains a 7 day history. It includes a clock and trip timer. I can't say that I have personal experience with many other pedomters but I am 100% satisified with the Omron HJ-303.
