Customer Reviews of Oral-B Triumph Professional Care 9400 Power ToothbrushCustomer Review: You won't believe the feeling and the look of your teeth after only a few days of using this brush! Summary: 5 StarsWhat a toothbrush! Honestly, it really is awesome! It feels like a dentist visit every morning and night, and sometimes in between :) The strength of this brush is just amazing. It is a strong, forceful (but not harsh) clean. I love the option of the 2 minute timer. It also has a "professional timer" which is also a 2 minute timer, but pulsates every 30 seconds to change quadrants of your mouth, to endure that you get the best possible clean.
It comes with a 30 day money back guarantee, so you have nothing to lose! You won't believe the feeling and the look of your teeth after only a few days of using this brush!
I love the Flossing head brushes! They are great!
Customer Review: I didn't like it because it didn't have the shudders every 30 seconds and it was very harsh. Summary: 5 StarsI first tried an Oral-B 7500 series. I didn't like it because it didn't have the shudders every 30 seconds and it was very harsh. So then I bought the Triumph 9425 from Costco (for only $100)! I LOVE THIS THING!!! I started on the Soft setting for my sensitive teeth, but after only a few days I was using the Clean Setting and it didn't hurt at all! I love the way it feels like I've just been to the dentist. There's not much vibration. It has a polish and massage function which I haven't used yet, but I will. It also has a smiley face when you've completed your 2 minutes, which can be motivational (even though I'm over 30).
My teeth feel better, and my breath is fresher! This is a great tool! I definitely like it better than Sonicare because there was too much vibration and the brush head was too large. I love this brushhead because it fits behind and around my teeth with ease. It's so easy to use and you get amazing results!
Customer Review: A great toothbrush! Summary: 5 StarsA great toothbrush! My only negative comment is that if you use this toothbrush twice a day, then the battery is only good for one week (not two weeks as stated in the manual) before a new charge is necessary.
Customer Review: It seems as if it got bumped or something internally. Summary: 4 StarsThis toothbrush is by far the best one yet from oralb. I have used quite a few different models of their automatic rechargeable and battery operated toothbrushes and this one is the best by far.
The brush cleans so well that you feel as if you got a professional cleaning from your dentist. My children also love it as it cleans their teeth much better than the manual brushes.
I gave it only 4 stars because my unit had a dent/scratch on the lcd screen. It seems as if it got bumped or something internally. It doesnt have any affect on the toothbrush as far as i can see so far but who knows. I was too lazy to return it for a replacement.
Customer Review: Definitely not for kids anymore. Summary: 3 StarsI waited long enough to replace my Oral B 7850 DLX Power Toothbrush. I skipped the 8850 DLX model because it didn't offer much improvement and a USD100.00 price tag, which still uses the same brush head as the previous models.
This latest release is another beast. A total re-design and concept on keeping the teeth clean and healthy.
A. The features:
1. Four brush modes - Clean (for regular brushing mode), Soft (for sensitive gums and teeth), Massage (finally a mode to help massage and stimulate the gums), Polish (for use with polishing toothpaste).
2. FlossAction Brush head which utilizes four thin rectangular bristles at the four corners that's supposed to go in between the teeth and simulate flossing. This isn't a replacement to flossing, but it's the next step in brushing technology.
3. LCD screen to give you visual feedback on the time spent brushing per quadrant, brushing mode selected and battery charge left.
4. A smart charger that adapts to any voltage in the world. It can be disassembled from the base station to offer the ultimate in portability.
I waited awhile prior to offering my feedback because I wanted to take some time to get used to and compare my old Oral-B toothbrush.
* Physically it's bigger - taller, thicker (handle) and heavier than previous Oral-B toothbrush. Picking it up felt weird because suddenly my hand had to re-orient how to hold a toothbrush. But two days later my hand felt comfortable with it. This is definitely not for younger people with small hands. It was definitely built for adults.
* Unlike previous models which offered two speeds for brushing, the Triumph model offers one speed but with four modes as highlighted above. The "Clean" mode is what everyone should find themselves using as it offers the fastest speed. Slapping the toothbrush on my mouth for the first time I thought my gums were going to rip apart. It's not as bad as I make it sound, but it's definitely a little more rough which in part is due to the re-designed brush head called the FlossAction. I found my gums bled a little during my first three uses. But this was not alarming as the manual that came with the unit specifically warned of this occurence. Do not be alarmed with bleeding gums because this new design is creating a healthier and tougher gum.
* I appreciate the four brush mode features and find myself using the "Massage" function every now and then for my gums. I plan to use the "Polish" (the unit came with one Polish brush head), but I still have yet to buy a specific toothpaste that polishes and whitens the teeth.
* The LCD screen is neat. In fact it's about time they equipped their toothbrush with one. Now I don't have to guess how much battery life I have left. It tells the user what brushing mode they are currently at. It has a timer to inform how much time has lapsed per quadrant (a novelty feature as you would need to move the screen into view to actually check the time as the standard 30-second alert is still the most useful).
* The new brush heads - FlossAction and PowerPolisher - were made specifically for this model and have built-in Smart chips to inform the handle what mode to engage in when the power button is pressed. It also alerts us via the LCD screen when it's nearing it's useful brush head life. No wonder those brush heads are so expensive!
* The FlossAction brush head is a definite improvement in brushing technology. It certainly doesn't replace flossing. But it's an evolutionary step in further cleaning at a high speed and massaging the gums in between the teeth. My dentist has remarked on how healthy my teeth were during my last check up after years of using the old Professional Care toothbrush. I'm anxious for a new report on how my gums will fare for my next visit after months of using the Triumph.
The Cons of the toothbrush:
1. The bigger physical dimensions of the Triumph make this not for everyone. It's bigger and a little bit (negligible) heavier. Definitely not for kids anymore.
2. The new brush heads have singled out people with braces. They will need to use the previous FlexiSoft brush heads. Or better yet the Oral-B BracesCare Essentials Refill Kit brush heads specifically for people with braces. The FlexiSoft brush head fits and works with the Triumph. Although there is no indication or direct mention by Oral-B that they approve of it. And I'm not sure of the implications of the motor and durability of the brush head when mixing with previous models. Until I know for sure, I'm not tossing the 7850 DLX model for my wife who has braces.
3. The manual states a battery life of two weeks in between full charges. I'm seeing a real-world scenario of a little over a week. This includes running the toothbrush over water and occassional gum massages.
4. The LCD screen is very useful, but not exactly within visual view when brushing.
5. Although inserting a brush head with the smart chip will automatically switch brushing mode. When manually switching modes, you will need to power on the toothbrush first before you can switch brushing modes. They should have thought of being able to select the brushing mode first prior to powering on the toothbrush. This is what the LCD screen is for anyway. Why didn't they maximize it's potential.
6. Another annoying LCD feature is it's 24-hour display of the battery life. It's not like we're going to be constantly staring at the screen the whole day. How many times can be really grab the toothbrush? 2-3 times a day. This constant display of battery life is a waste of, well, battery life and cannot be switched off. They should have enabled us to depress a switch to check the remaining power so we are able to conserve more of that energy for brushing.
7. Still a big disappointment is the inability to make the toothbrush handle last longer by replacing the battery. When the manual showed us how to remove the batter via using the SmartCharger as a tool to open the case, I thought the batteries were now replaceable. In fact, it's only to help properly dispose of the dead battery and the accompanying warning that opening the case will render the handle unusable and a void warranty to go with it.
8. Oral-B still hasn't found a way to incorporate their Sonic line with the Professional Care models. They are still a separate technology which one would have to choose (or buy both). And time will tell which really is a more proven technique towards healthier teeth and gums.
----------
All in all it is definitely a great buy and the next step in brushing technology. I wouldn't make a mistake recommending this to others nor buying it if I were to make the choice all over again.
However, the unbelievable USD119.99 current price tag is what will turn most people off in upgrading from the previous Power model or tossing their manual toothbrush. I got mine from Amazon and waited until the price one day dropped to USD89.99 plus a USD10.00 rebate. That was a no-brainer buy. Currently, I would wait until they make a similar offer. Until then, keep what you have.
The next-step features of the LCD screen is really about time they should have already done is for the 8850 DLX model. But they still have not maximized the features of having an LCD screen. Until they release the next model (hopefully two years from now), we won't be seeing it at the moment.
The ability to replace the battery is still locked out for the user. And with the cost of power toothbrush like these, they are making replacing and upgrading to the next model more inconvenient/impossible.
Because of the above, I would give it 3 stars especially with the current price tag. And the price tag that comes with the new brush heads with smart chips. It's really a great product, but there are still imperfections in features that they have to explore. And if they had a suggested retail price of USD80.00, it could have easily earned 4 stars so more people can experience the kind of brushing technology they had to offer.
