Customer Review: Comparing Oster, Wahl and Andis clippers
Summary: 5 Stars

(June, 2008). I am completely satisfied with the Oster Fast Feed clipper. It works perfectly, has minimal vibration and noise. It has no case, but the accessory guides fit and seem well made. I was able to get mine for less than $50, shipping included.

Here are some general observations about buying clippers for reliable long life use. I needed a clipper to cut my (mens) hair fairly short. I researched the Wahl, Andis and Oster brands.
The least expensive Wahl unit that seems to be currently made (assembled?) in the US and that consistently gets good reviews is the ChromePro. Some of the HomePro units get terrible reviews. I suspect the manufacturing of this line has recently moved overseas because some of the older HomePros models were well reviewed.
The same seems to be true of Andis; some less expensive units get mixed reviews and the better-rated and more expensive units are US made.
The Oster Azteq is made in China and has some negative comment about insufficient cutter travel. The Fast Feed and Salon Pro are the least expensive Osters with good reviews and, you guessed it, made (assembled?) in the US.
I think, at this time, my recommendation regarding clippers is to seek out an American made product.
Technically Wahl has the least expensive product to meet these criteria, but I have been using Oster clippers on my horses for years. Some of these units are 30 years old and still going strong, so I decided to pay another $20 to get the Fast Feed.
You probably will need guides that restrict the length of hair that can be cut. I felt I needed at least a #4 (1/2"), #3 (3/8") #2 (1/4") and #1 (1/8" aka blend) guide. The clippers themselves have a built in guide that adjusts to provide the smaller sizes (000 to 0 or "shave" to 1/16th). If you are styling longer hair then you will need more guides. It makes sense to buy the guides at the same time as the clippers. All clippers should include oil and a cleaning brush. You will also need good scissors.
If you are unsure about home hair cutting go to Google and search videos "how to cut hair". You can add in "Men" and "Self". There are many very informative videos on the subject. Some are pretty funny, too.
Good luck and remember
"It eventually grows back."

Customer Review: Great clipper...should have bought one years ago
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been cutting my boys hair over the past year or so, they are 3 and 7. I have been using scissors for the most part because the old set of clippers I have always catches their hair and pulls on it. I have been looking high and low for a good used Oster Classic 76 but with little luck. I didn't want to spend the +100 for them...just a little too much for what I was using them for. I was surfing the kijiji ads and found someone selling the Fast Feed for $80 so I was intrigued and started to do some research. From reviews I read they sounded perferct for my needs and at the right price point. So I ended up buying a new one off of eBay for $60 delivered and it just arrived this past week. I was looking forward to trying them out on the boys so today was "haircut" day. Everything was in the box as described, clipper, combs, oil, small brush for cleaning and manual. I put a few dabs of oil on the blade and started out with the 3/8 comb. The clippers worked flawlessly. They easily cut through my sons hair (that is quite thick) and with absolutely no pulling. I tried a few of the other blades and all of them worked fine. The blades were the only thing I was nervous about when I bought because they were plastic vs the Classic 76 that have the metal guides. For anyone that hasn't cut hair with either clippers or scissors, I simply copy what my barber does in terms of method. With a little practice it doensn't take long to give a good hair cut.

These clippers are great for the home user and I don't see why anyone other than a professional would get the Classic 76. I would recommend, based on the following

- good build quality - solid vs cheaper magnetic clippers
- value - great price
- sharp - easily cuts through thick hair with absolutly no pulling
- combs work surprising well even though they are plastic
- results - on my first use the clipper greatly improved the result of my son's hair cut vs just using scissors - more even cut especially the sides and back where its nice to get a close cut.

Customer Review: SPEND the extra $!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had clippers from Target/Walmart now for over 10 years, each set lasting about 5 years, which is pretty decent when you think about it. BUT they are very loud, tend to dull fast and often the screws holding the back plate on come off. I've ended pulling out hair with them unless I adjust them just right, which was bothersome.
After making the decision to go with the Oster Fast Feed Clippers, which my dad owned as I grew up, I am SO thankful that I made the right choice.
SO much quieter!
So much more easy to trim my own hair!
As soon as I pulled them from the box, I immediately thought of them as Professional clippers, NO DOUBT! And when I turned them on for the 1st time, I was immediately sent back in time to the barber shop as a 3 year old.
The only drawback was that they don't come with their own plastic case to put in after each use...but all I did was hang onto the one from Target and they fit perfectly in there. I just disposed of the rickety one, and replaced it with the Oster. Voila!
This was a GREAT purchase!

Customer Review: Quality Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a solid set of hair clippers. It has a pivot motor in it, which is more than twice as powerful as a magnetic motor (which is what most cheaper clippers come with). I first got a cheap Remington set of hair clippers for $10 and they worked once but the second time, the clippers would just stop, because they weren't powerful enough to cut through my hair... So I did a little research and found that this Oster set was highly recommended. It costs a fair amount more than the crappy $10 set (and doesn't come with the 5 billion extras to make it look like a better deal when they're really compensating for a crappy product - like a carrying case, cape, left ear clipper etc.) but I got it anyway and have been happy with it ever since.

My friend actually has a different set of Oster clippers (about the same quality level), and has had them for many years so I think I'll be able to use this until I go bald and don't need them anymore.

Customer Review: Great Product at fantastic price
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a moderately priced pair of clippers from Wal-Mart. They were Wahl's and came with a ton of attachments (most of which I threw away). They served me well for about a year and then started making a really irritating buzzing sound and quit cutting my hair. I did all the adjustments, cleaned it out, and serviced but to no avail.

I was looking at buying the Oster Classic 76, but after researching it realized I was just going to throw away money. I am only cutting my hair and not hundreds of people a week. The Fast Feed is FANTASTIC. As soon as you turn them on you realize that it is a fine piece of machinery. It hums rather than vibrates and buzz. These things are super sharp and give you a professional looking hair cut. No more uncut hairs of sprigs sticking up. This is a semi-professional clipper that is MORE than enough for the DIY hair cutter.
