I love this otoscope. I received it as an early Christmas gift from my husband and use it only a daily basis in my medical practice. The light is brighter than any otoscope I have used to date in 20 years of medical practice. It is a very convenient size.I keep it in my coat pocket and take it with me between exam rooms. So far the batteries have lasted almost a month and the light has not lost any of its brightness. The tympanic membrane and everything you see inside the ear canal are amazing clear due to the very bright light. I have very expensive wall mounted otoscopes in every exam room and they do not have anything over this model when it comes to clarity of vision. I actually prefer this otoscope over the wall mounted units. I guess part of the reason is that I do not have to get off my exam stool and stand up and reach to get to the wall mounted otoscope. With this one I simply reach into my pocket and grab the otoscope and a disposable specula never having to leave my seat. I guess this seems kind of lazy but when you go through an average of 30 patients a day anything that will save you time and energy is worth it. I had planned on purchasing 2 sets of re-chargeable AA batteries at Costco so I would never be without a set of charged batteries (The rechargeable AA type have gotten really cheap since this is the same size many digital cameras use)but since the regular alkaline set seems to be lasting so long I may just stick with regular alkalines.
Overall you will not go wrong with this otoscope especially at such an inexpensive price. You will not believe what otoscopes have cost in the past. It is about time (thanks to the internet)some competition has been added to the medical device marketplace.
Description of POCKET Model - PRO Fiber-Optic LED Pocket Otoscope.
Very functional fiberoptic LED pocket otoscope that makes use of a proprietary Full Spectrum Bright White LED. This is the same LED used in the Dr Mom Otoscope but this model has a nose cone that allows for easy application of disposable specula. This is the model you want if you need a pocket otoscope for clinical use. The real big advantage of this otoscope is the very bright fiberoptic LED lighting with a 100,000 hour lifetime meaning you will probably never have to replace a bulb again. If the bulb does go out for any reason just contact us and we will send out a new one for free. Our competitors pocket otoscope (W/A) bulbs are now running $35-$40. Halogen bulbs are incandescent meaning they contain a fragile filament. These go out with just normal use and much sooner if the otoscope is ever jarred or dropped. The other big advantage is that our proprietary LED uses very little battery power. We have had physicians email us that they have had batteries last 6 months or more. Our LED also has a proprietary DC-DC boost converter that allows it to work even when the batteries are very low. For the money spent you will not find a better value in a pocket otoscope for clinical use. IMPORTANT: This otoscope makes use of a LED module meaning the LED is mounted on a circuit board to allow for voltage regulation. It also contains a protective resistor and a DC-DC boost convertor. If you purchase an otoscope with a simple LED bulb connected directly to the battery power source without the circuit board and any type voltage regulation the lifespan is reduced dramatically.Health Monitors
