These diapers are very thin, noticeably so. The most immediate consequence of making diapers so thin is the loss of the bubble butt. You know the one I mean - the part that makes pretty summer dresses puff out in the most Victorian way-- ? Or the way a pair of jeans puffs out on small ones? Gone. The loss of the bubble butt has a few advantages though - especially that it lets babies walk more easily, wet or dry.
These diapers are so slim that I did not trust them to hold their own. Diapers this lightweight makes it hard to believe that they can hold anything. But they did keep the moisture away from the baby's skin - except for overnight. I don't know what the technology is that causes these to be so absorbent when the diapers are so thin but it works. They also worked to contain messes effectively.
Honestly, the size 2-3 was a new size to me. I've never seen two sizes put together like that. I used these with our 17 month old granddaughter who weighs 22 pounds, which was the outside weight of what these diapers say they will fit. They fit her easily but that may have been because they are fairly elastic. She is also fairly lanky which makes it easier.
This sizing thing was a little curious to me. Size 2 is 12-18 pounds which is an extremely short term size. Size 2-3 is 14-22 pounds. Size 3 is 16-28 pounds. I never saw much point to size 2 because most of our children and grandchildren barely touched that size on their way to a true size 3. However, one did need the smaller size: our 17 month old granddaughter was a little small for the size 3 diapers she has been wearing, but was definitely too large for 2s.
In her case and in the cases of other babies who are lanky or who have not grown as quickly, this is a useful size. This package specifically said for newborns to 6 month old babies. This is one of those cases where size and age don't match up especially well. Or it is one of those cases where they invented the right size for babies who don't fit the traditional mold.
