Customer Reviews of Parker SR1 Stainless Steel Straight Edge Razor and 5 Shark Super Stainless blades

Customer Review: It's a keeper
Summary: 4 Stars

Yes, there are much better razors but at a ridiculously high price. This will give you a serviceable straight shave at an affordable price. Work on your technique without blades first before using this.

Customer Review: "Specially Made for Arabian Countries"
Summary: 3 Stars

I was considering this razor against the Dovo Shavette (as recommended by my barber) - this won out because it was 1/3rd the price, and I was not sure how I would like using a straight razor - I currently use a Weishi DE safety razor and really feel comfortable with it - and it is a great introduction to a straight edge as I can use my safety razor blades in it (snapped in half in the wax paper).

I am happy with my purchase for the purpose of trying out a straight razor, but I would disagree with the previous reviewer that it would make a good gift: the quality is not very high with the handle made of a inexpensive stamped metal held together with shoddy rivets and plastic shims. The blade holder had quite a bit of pitting and scratching, nothing affecting the performance, but again, not gift quality. It is engraved "Specially Made for Arabian Countries", and there is writing all over the handle - probably not the best gift for an all-American!

Again, it is OK for the price and purpose, but I will probably end up with the DOVO if I end up sticking with the straight razor.

Customer Review: good starting razor
Summary: 3 Stars

FYI, the blades are very dull. You WILL want to buy a sharpening strop. The blades are a bit short, I was getting pinched from the arm until I set them in the other slot. The blade arm tends to get stuck when you try to open it. Those minor complaints are the only ones I have. Otherwise its a great straight razor to start learning with.

I've never shaved with a straight razor before this, but I had always heard that it was the best shave. I agree, but the downside is that using a straight razor takes way way longer than shaving with an electric razor.

Customer Review: Why, God. Why?
Summary: 3 Stars

After the first stroke, blood streaming down the side of my face, I considered my technique could use a little work. Maybe it was the angle. I decided to try the other cheek. Now with blood streaming down both sides of my face, I thought maybe, just maybe, I ought to try under the chin. Bleeding from three places now, I had to find a towel. Looking at myself in the mirror and bearing too close a resemblance to Carry, I taped gauze pads to the slices in my cheeks and retired for the evening.

I'll stick with conventional razors.

Customer Review: Not a great product
Summary: 3 Stars

The SR1 is a middle-of-the-road shavette. The stainless steel is a step up from the aluminum and plastic pieces of junk available in the $5 range, but this is actually less ergonomic than the cheap throw-aways. The wide neck translates to less control over the shavette, which is the last thing you want when your dexterity is the only thing standing between your face and an open razor blade. I would either opt for the $5 shavette or spend the money it costs for a real piece of shaving hardware.
