I have never had a tongue cleaner before and really didn't know what to expect. I get a heavy film on my tongue, center area. So my case is probably not "average." The cleaner is plastic and does rub the tongue as it is designed to do. It is a bit large so you can't maneuver it much side to side. My issue is that it does less than just brushing your tongue. When you brush your tongue the bristles get down into the little papilla that capture the film junk. I have taken to brushing my tongue first and using the plastic cleaner to move the junk out of my mouth. That works pretty well. Maybe better than just brushing and rinsing. So I still use it but it is not a "magic bullet" that cleans all of the film away.
