I read a review that says they didn't pass the "dissolve test" by putting it in a cup of vinegar. I'm not sure if they followed the true dissolve test instructions or not. You are supposed to heat the vinegar and agitate the pill every 5 minutes (note--I haven't tried this test with this pill yet because I don't feel the need to, I KNOW they are working. I can feel a dramatic difference and there's no bright yellow pee like with Rainbow Light prenatals which is supposedly a sign you are not absorbing the nutrients).
Here are some instructions if you want to do your own dissolve test (if it doesn't work, bring the vitamins back for a return---check w/ store ahead of time to make sure they allow returns on vitamins! They should since some can make you really sick):
1. Place approximately one cup of white vinegar in a small bowl and warm it to 98 degrees or so by placing it inside a larger bowl of water that you "top up" several times with warm water from the tap. (The goal is to keep the vinegar reasonably close to 98 degrees for half an hour.)
2. Drop your multi-vitamin (or other pill) into the vinegar, and jostle it about every five minutes or so by gently shaking or swirling the cup. While you can also stir the mix with a wooden stick or toothpick, be careful not to touch the tablet itself.
3. The tablet should dissolve within 30 minutes. (This is the USP standard for all pharmaceutical tablets.) If it doesn't dissolve within a full hour, it's not doing you much good. Get another brand!
Here's another set of instructions:
* Heat ˝-cup of vinegar (acetic acid) in a heat-safe cup on the hot-plate portion of a coffee machine to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (body temperature). For a quick check of the temperature, use an instant-read thermometer, and don't allow it to rest on the bottom of the cup where heat is most intense, giving a false reading.
* Place a pill in the cup, then stir continuously for 30 to 45 minutes, without hitting the pill and keeping the temperature near 98.6 degrees. If necessary, move the cup on and off the heat to maintain a constant temperature.
* Uncoated or thinly coated products should disintegrate in about 30 minutes; gelatin-coated and hard-coated products may require the full time.
* Note: This test may not work with ``time-release'' or ``sustained-release'' products. And be aware that ``chewable'' products are meant to be broken down by chewing and ``enteric-coated'' products should not fully break apart in this test since they are supposed to release their ingredients farther down the gut in the intestines.
