Although Amazon targeted me (Wayne) to evaluate this product based on my experience evaluating razors of various kinds, I felt that it was best to leave the "hands on" evaluation to my teenage daughter. It was not long ago that it would have made little difference. Razors were marketed to men, blades were blades, and the idea of using an electric razor "down there" was unthinkable. Manufacturers eventually realized that there was more to the picture than women borrowing their husband's double edged razor to use in the shower. They decided to make razors especially for women and the pink handle was introduced.
In reality, there was not much difference between a man's razor and a woman's razor. Blades were still blades, but as wet/dry electric razors captured more of a market segment, it made sense for the industry to refocus. Blades got handles contoured toward a different hold, and got more appropriate lubrication. Submersible electrics became tuned toward more precise areas and more sensitive skin with finer hair. Yet the distinctions between women's products and a new generation of men's beard trimmers with multiple attachments were still largely cosmetic.
The Philips Bikini Perfect represents a new breed of product truly tailored toward a woman's needs. It still has the old standby attachments such as a precision trimmer and micro shaver, but the micro trimmer, eyebrow comb, epilator, and accessories are clearly not just repackaged men's ones. The shape of the precision trimmer is more like a mini blade razor head rather than a narrower tipped attachment as seen in older models. Even the included illuminated tweezers have a strip shaped mirror that does not have the awkwardness of a "compact" mirror. The epliator attachment is designed to grab hairs by the roots so they are gone for weeks. It can "tweeze" larger areas faster. The micro trimmer has a head slightly under 3/8 of an inch wide, properly offset from the body for visibility and ease of use. An exfoliation glove is also included. The overall suite of attachments is unquestionably well suited. And it doesn't even need a pink handle.
The proof of any product is in its use. I asked my daughter to consider issues such as snagging, red bumps and irritation, closeness and maneuverability, ease of use, smoothness, and "day after" feel, as well as longer term use. She was a blade user prior to this, and blades can be hard to compete with for closeness. Nevertheless, she did not have irritation problems, and found this to be a pleasure to use. No electric razor will be 100% snag free but this one did considerably well. Of course an epilator is a modern day torture device that's not supposed to be snag free, but it did its job of sticking with hairs and not skin.
Overall, there's a lot to like about this product. The travel case is utilitarian at best, but the product itself created an enthusiastic fan.
