Customer Review: The first thing I noticed about the Norelco was how quiet it was.

I have only have the Norelco 8140 for about a week, but I am already impressed with it. I have used a Norelco in the past, but I have been using a Braun foil shaver for the last 6 years. The first thing I noticed about the Norelco was how quiet it was. It sounded like my Braun right before it lost all power. So I was really impressed with how quiet the new models are. The shaver works very good, although it does not get around my neck as close as I would like. (my old braun is a little better around the neck). Shaving also takes about 1/2 the time as my Braun. So overall I am very impressed with the Norelco 8140.Customer Review: I have been looking for something that doesnt bother me to shave.

U can shave while you are watching TV, is for use before or after shower.
I have troubes with the razors because makes me cuts and irritation on my skin.

This is a very good razor. I have used Norelcos for the last thirty years and this is the best one yet. It is very quiet and being able to clean it under the faucet is an outstanding feature. The only thing keeping me from giveing it five stars if the fact that the heads are a bit too big to reach some of the tighter areas, (like under my nose) as easly as my old razor. Possibly, I should not have gotten the XL. Smaller heads would have made that spot easer to shave. All in all, I love the razor. I am very impressed with this razor. I have used electric razors most of my 35+ years of shaving. I was skeptical using it for the first time, I thought it wasn't working because it is so soft to the face and so quiet. It didn't sound "agressive" like my other razors did. WRONG!!! The shave was close, my skin was not irritated at all, and it cut smooth basically in the first pass. This unit is first class.
My previous razor was a Braun foil. I bought one for myself and another for my son from Frys because of the price. JUNK!!! We both have heavy beards, he more so than I, and both of us had terrible 5 o'clock shadows by 10:00AM! And the skin irritation on my neck, just horrible.
I took a long time comparing all the available models. For me this model provides the best mix of features and price. I definitely recommend the Speed-XL shaving heads. Other nice features are it can be cleaned under the faucet, it charges quickly and maintains that charge for a long time, and it provides what I consider one of the best shaves I've had in a long time. The heft and feel is good. Materials are good. Workmanship is good. The only feature I'd like to have is a battery charge indicator.
The other Speed-XL model is the 8160. It includes the cleaning system with a much higher price. Now there is the SmartTouch-XL which may be overkill. But if price is not an issue...

I've been shaving for years with electric shavers. Back when Remingtons were still made in USA and Norelco's in Japan. This shaver is good. It is very quiet. The shave isn't as close as the older model 850RX. My cheap Wahl shaves closer and faster but is far too noisy.
The batteries would give many shaves if I didn't have to spend so much time getting a close shave. Because of the time it takes and the marginal quality of the closness I could not give it more than 3 stars.
One for being quiet, one for being non-irritating, and one for overall construction quality.
But it lost one for being a slow shaver, and lost one for not shaving closer.
