My old Norelco wore out - battery wouldn't hold a charge, and blades got dull. After months of shaving for what seemed like 15 minutes a day, I thought it must be time to get a new one. AM I GLAD I DID! The 8140 gives me a really close shave in just one or two passes on the beard - literally done in 30 seconds or less. The old one never did well on the jaw line, and this one mows it right down. Plus, it's lighter, quieter, and you can rinse the head with water. You don't have to use the charging stand if your don't want more stuff stacked up on the counters - the cord that fits the stand also fits the shaver. This razor is built to extremely high standards with quality materials. The razor is both waterproof and very quiet. However, the shave quality is horrible. I got a much better and quicker shave from my $35 remington that unfortunately gave up after about a year.Customer Review: The 8140XL is the first I have owned with three cutters in each head setup.

I have been a Norelo rotary razor user for over 30 years. The 8140XL is the first I have owned with three cutters in each head setup. Why didn't I get this shaving system sooner? (Well my old one was still going OK, but was not holding a charge as long.)
The 8140XL is quiet, light weight and shaves my beard with no problems. The little neck hairs that have a mind of their own, which my old razor would miss, cannot hide from this razor. In the morning, I find my beard is not has long as before, therefore it has to be shaving closer that the old one.
I recommend all of you with the old single cutter heads (cannot speak to dual cutter heads - if they ever existed), seriously look at any of the new Norelcos with the three cutters head design.

I have been using Norelco shavers for 40 years and when I saw the deal on the triple head at Sam's Club I decided to retire my 10 year old Norelco. A mistake! I should have taken advantage of the 30 day test period because I am not satisfied and am back using my old shaver. Using the new shaver takes 2 or 3 times as long and even then I miss spots. The overall shave is not nearly as close. The Sam's club version does not come with a stand so I have to store the shaver in a glass. I called Norelco and a stand in not available as a seperate item.
The triple shaving heads are not nearly as effective as the old one and are just a marketing gimick.
If you are currently using an older Norelco triple header the 8140 will be disapointing.
