I bought this product for my dad and he loves it. He had Norelco before but the battery died and the new battery didnt perform as good as the old one. So we got him this one. He loves the fact that he can wash it to clean.
There might be other products with extra features but ask yourself : Do I really need the shiny digital display or Do I have to have the X feature.
Buy 8140XL and trust me you will love it.

I have had this razor for 6 weeks now (that's past the 3 week adjustment period) and overall I am disappointed with it.
First, what I like about the razor:
The quick rinse cleaning is a very nice feature and the reason why I choose this razor. I am not very good about cleaning the razors.
The trimmer is on a spring release that works much better than my old Norelco's trimmer that took some force to open.
Indicators to let you know when to recharge and when the razor is at full charge.
What I did not like about the razor:
For the other posts who said the larger blades did not seem to make a difference from older razors, I must agree.
The charger light is only a light, not a gauge.
On the subject of charging, the manual says that you should not let the razor sit in the charger to preserve the internal battery. This can be a real problem since I shave close to the time I am leaving. So, I don't have the time to wait and remembering to charge it when I get home usually doesn't happen.
Although quiet (something that I could not care less about) it feels weak. I find myself constantly checking to see if it needs recharging. My problem areas were not solved by this newer razor with larger blades and my shaving time was not reduced.
Better make sure you are happy with your shave before rinsing the razor.
I find it works great if I skip a day of shaving, but daily shaving and 2 days or more of growth can give this razor trouble.

I am a man who hates to shave; it's a daily chore I happily forego any time I'm not working and have no place to go. I've been through a number of electric shavers in my time, of both the three-headed and foil varieties, and I have not really been happy with any one of them. As far as my face goes, foil shavers just don't do the job, especially on the neck - and those blasted foils tend to break quite easily, so the first thing you know you're rubbing a sharp metal edge over your face. The three-headed Norelco shavers I've used in the past have worked fairly well but never seemed to deliver as close a shave as I wanted or expected.
These Norelco XL shavers may cost a little more than your average electric shaver, but they really do the job. Finally, I have a razor I can be happy with. This little beauty delivers what is easily the closest shave of any razor I've ever used, even on those neck hairs that eluded all my retired and discarded models. I'm talking about a huge, very noticeable difference. This shaver seems to mold itself to my face as I move from one area to another - the feeling was downright uncanny the first time I used it. I've probably cut my shaving time down by two-thirds, and I get a much closer shave, to boot. That alone makes this product worth the price, as far as I'm concerned.
The battery has been a wonder all by itself, as well. It takes almost no time at all to fully charge this shaver - I don't think it's taken less than a half hour for me as of yet. And that battery charge lasts forever. I can go two weeks or more without needing to recharge, whereas I used to have to charge my old shavers at least once a week. These XL shavers are also wonderfully easy to clean. No longer do you have to worry about popping the cover off and fumbling it into the toilet bowl (hey, with my luck, it could happen) because the top doesn't detach itself completely - it attaches via a hinge that makes for really easy access and cleaning. Best of all, you can actually rinse the shaver clean.
All the technical mumbo-jumbo about shavers mean little to me. All I care about is getting as close a shave in as short a time as possible - and I haven't found any electric shaver that can even compete with this Norelco model in that regard. This is by far the best electric shaver I've ever used.

I have yet to find an electric shaver that shaves as close as a straight razor, but I like to alternate to give my face a break. The Norelco is very quiet and almost vibrationless. It shaves as close as any electric razor I've ever owned. Although it is difficult to know when the battery is wearing down, i just plug it in every few days to make sure it always has power when I need it. That is not big deal. I read the Amazon reviews before purchasing this item and I am satisfied with my choice---I pretty much knew what I was getting.Customer Review: This particular model does not tell you when the battery needs recharging.
