I ordered my Norelco model 8140XL because I had a Norelco previously and received great service from it. The battery finally stopped charging after years of excellent service. I am very pleased with my new shaver and the battery is holding a charge very well so far. I have not recharged it in almost a month, following the directions not to charge until the charge light comes on. The shave is excellent and I also got some lubricating spray which I use regularly on it. I also am enjoying the ability to wash out the shaver rather than having to use the brush after each shave. I would recommend this shaver to others. The only drawback is the price of the new heads. It seems like companies are prone to almost give away a product and then charge an outrageous amount for replacement parts.Customer Review: excellent shaver

There's not a lot to get excited about concerning shaving but the Philips Norelco 8140XL SpeedXL Men's Shaver is well designed and gets the job done efficiently and effectively. It provides a close shave in a minimum amount of time and does so easily and quietly.
I've previous experience using a Braun shaver (about ~10 years) and after that a less expensive Norelco shaver (~5 years) with about half the shaving surface. Both were adequate, the Norelco being a definite improvement over the earlier Braun shaver. However, I purchased this one in the hopes that it would be both more efficient (length of time shave) and effective (closeness) and I have not been disappointed.

Best electric razor I have ever used. Close, comfortable shave, long duration charge, easy cleaning.
This best product ever, was sadistically placed in the worst, most dangerous plastic blister pack I have ever seen. The packaging engineer and all who approved this packaging should immediately be declared terrorists and sent to Abu Ghraib for some "gentle interrogation"...and please, me first!
Although over 70, I am physically fit and a degreed engineer. I play golf 5 days a week, and hands on care of 3 residental properties and a 300 acre ranch. It took me over 20 minutes of creative cursing using words I did not even know existed! I cut myself 3 times. Only a set of sharp tools or unlimited supply of explosives will allow these horrendous packages to be opened.

I bought my first electric shaver about 55 years ago and my first Norelco only a few years later. Since then I've tried them all, and this is by far the best.
I joke that it is a magic shaver, because you don't hear anything and don't feel anything.
That's a slight exaggeration. You do hear a very slight hum, but it it is so quiet that I really thought something was wrong the first time I used it, but I quickly noticed that whereever it touched my face, the whiskers disappeared.
It does cause some minor skin irritation, but it is instantly cured by a few drops of after shave balm.
Very easy to clean, and a charge lasts about two weeks.
Very light, very comfortable in your hand. Can't find a single negative.

I have been a Norelo rotary razor user for over 30 years. The 8140XL is the first I have owned with three cutters in each head setup. Why didn't I get this shaving system sooner? (Well my old one was still going OK, but was not holding a charge as long.)
The 8140XL is quiet, light weight and shaves my beard with no problems. The little neck hairs that have a mind of their own, which my old razor would miss, cannot hide from this razor. In the morning, I find my beard is not has long as before, therefore it has to be shaving closer that the old one.
I recommend all of you with the old single cutter heads (cannot speak to dual cutter heads - if they ever existed), seriously look at any of the new Norelcos with the three cutters head design.
