The Philips Norelco Vacuum Beard Trimmer is a great tool for maintaining a full or partial beard and mustache. It has a removable electric cord that allows for operation using AC power or to charge the battery in the unit for cordless operation. This second function is very helpful because the trimmer cord can restrict movements while trimming.
The Norelco is a good looking trimmer with a flat black, glossy black, and silver plastic covering. It has a clear plastic cover over a chamber for trimmed hair to be deposited by a built in vacuum device. The cover flips up on a hinge to empty the chamber.
The cutting head is unique with a hinged clear plastic comb that travels in and out with curves of the face and neck keeping the blades at a constant angle. The blade can be adjusted for desired beard length in the following increments (inches): 1/32, 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 15/32, 5/8, 23/32. The blades cut a 1 1/4 inch path, wide enough for efficiency in cutting broad areas of the cheeks and neck yet narrow enough to trim mustaches and sideburns. Blades and rechargeable battery are replaceable by the owner.
I have worn a beard most of the time for many years, and have kept it short, medium, and long to fit the occasion. I always determined length in the past with an electric barber razor with a few available attachments. The built in beard length determiner of the Norelco is very useful. Turning a wheel to the desired setting in the body of the trimmer guarantees consistent length. Trimming cleanly without putting down newspapers to collect cut hair is a real advantage offered by the vacuum and hair collection chamber.
This is an excellent beard trimmer, and the owner will not have to allow a beard to grow beyond desired limits because of the hassle of setting up a cutting session. I accompany my wife on her trips as a travel agent, and the Norelco is a useful device in my bath travel kit. I highly recommend this trimmer to anyone beginning a beard or maintaining a beard, long or short.
