Customer Review: Works great, so little cleanup

I've owned a few trimmers over the few years, and none had a built in vacuum. After losing the power cord to my last one, I went shopping and found this gem. The vacuum intrigued me -- would it really be worth the extra $20-25 over a standard trimmer? One word: Yes.
I'd always put off shaving my beard due to the necessity of cleaning up afterwards. I just trimmed my beard, which had grown out over the past two weeks, and amazingly, the sink below me only had a few pieces of hair in it. That is totally acceptable in my book, and with this I'll be keeping my beard trimmed often because cleanup isn't a hassle anymore.
Highly recommended. I can't speak for longevity, except that the trimmer I'm replacing was a Norelco that I bought almost two years ago, and it's still running (albeit it just died because I can't charge it anymore).

The last accuvac I had from Norelco lasted about 5 years and just died. Since it worked so well and does a pretty good job of keeping the sink and counter clean I decided to stick with this brand. This is the only one that I found that could be used while plugged in. My old one seemed to like to die occasionally when I wasn't quite finished using it so I had to wait for it to charge for a little while just to be able to finish up. With this one I could plug it in finish up and then it would charge to full capacity, that is great. I'm not so sure about the hair chamber as the old one I had had a removable hair chamber, this one only actually has a door but I guess it works fine. Others have mentioned the power button was touchy, I don't really agree. The way I hold it it wouldn't get pushed unless I meant to push it. Two thumbs up.Customer Review: Best Christmas gift yet!

I bought this for my dad for last Christmas, and it's been incredible! When dad started to grow out a beard, I wanted to get him a trimmer to keep it neat. When he first used it, he trimmed over the trashcan, and he was shocked to see that the vacuum actually caught all of the hair! By now, he's used it all around the house, and still no mess. After nearly a year of use, the blades have stayed sharp and haven't pulled.
On a whim, I used it to trim my brother's hair. Mind you, I'm no professional stylist, but I thought it was tremendously helpful! I cut the bulk of his hair with our Oster clippers, but I thought the Norelco was much easier to handle for detail work (i.e. shaping, sideburns, back of the neck). A pho-hawk is pretty difficult to do, but the 9 length settings helped me to create it. Take THAT, Fantastic Sam's!

I've had a beard for over 25 years. I'd used Wahl products before... they're not terrible, but most trimmers leave a mess, particularly with thick coarse beards like mine.

This product has a "dial" for different height settings. I dial a 3 for my beard (which I keep close), and change to a 4 for my moustache. (Settings are 1-9, with 1 giving you a "1 day growth" look). This trimmer does a good job vacuuming the trimmings, and is easy to clean. There is a plastic door that opens to readily empty the vacuumed clippings.
There is a separate trim attachment for the sideburn or trim function... it doesn't take that long to change, but I could see where this might be an aggravation for a sideburn/goatee' kind of guy. My razor has a popout trimmer that I use for this purpose, so it isn't an issue for me.

Being that my previous Norelco trimmer (a T770) took 10 hours to fully charge, I greatly liked how the T980 took just 70 minutes to do the same thing. And I just LOVE the mini-beard trimmer attachment!! Now I can trim my beard line, mustache and sideburn hair (with the help of vacuum power) without having to worry about a HUGE mess to clean up!! And the turbo power option? The 30% increase in vacuum power it provides helps out in situations where you have to hold the T980 in contorted, odd positions to get the job done (i.e. upside down), and you don't want hair that's being cut coming out of the device.
In short, the Norelco T980 is a BIG improvement over the trimmer that I used to have!! And the price was pretty damn reasonable, too!! I definitely feel that I got my money's worth when I purchased this product!!
