Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare Advance 4100 Sonic Power ToothbrushCustomer Review: Invigorating feeling Summary: 5 Stars
I just graduated college and since I am without insurance I can't afford to make my twice a year dental appointments. At my mom's urging I purchased one of these just to be sure I'm brushing well. Everyone in my family owns one (different models)...and all I can say is amazing!!
It is a little bulky at the handle, but it has a nice smaller brush head (since I have a smaller mouth this is a good thing).
It makes my teeth so shiny and squeaky clean and my gums look healthy too (they were never in bad shape,) but it was well worth the price. i am so pleased.
It shuts off after two minutes, sits nicely on my vanity, and after filling out the registration I'm getting 27.99 worth of coupons (I'm assuming for brush heads and such). I've become addicted and brush more than twice a day (3-5 times a day) which is great. I just love the invigorating feeling. I really do feel the healthy difference of investing in this product.
UPDATE: I can't even begin to say how much I love this toothbrush. I've been using this for two months and I couldn't imagine going back to a manual toothbrush. This gets your teeth from-the-dentist clean, seriously!
Just don't skimp on using floss and use mouthwash!
pros: gets your teeth super clean, use less toothpaste
cons: toothpaste can dry in crevices, so it must be cleaned, no warning beep before it needs to be recharged--sucks when i'm in the middle of brushing and it shuts off.
Customer Review: Sonicare Toothbruxh Summary: 5 Stars
Sonicare is the best battery toothbrush on the market......I've been using one for about 10 years........The only reason I bought a new one now is the batteries died on the old one....If you could replace the two AA batteries in the Sonicare without a big hassle, you would probably never have to buy a new one again.....Replacing the batteries requires removing a circuit board and soldering it back along with two rechargeble AA batteries...I didn't have the time for that...
As far as how the toothbrush works, I think it is EXCELLENT.....This brush will remove ALL the plaque if you use it for 2 minutes, twice a day...The toothbrush shuts off automatically after two minutes letting you know that you've brushed enough....
When I get my teeth cleaned at the Dentist he has very little to do and tells me that the regular brushing has helped close up pockets in the bone between my teeth...He got me hooked on the Sonicare ten years ago and he was right.........It really works and if they would make it easy to replace the rechargeable batteries, the product would be perfect.... (Although, the batteries on my original toothbrush lasted 10 years).......If you know how to work on computer boards, etc., you could replace your own batteries in twenty minutes.......
You also don't need the most expensive Sonicare they make......As long as it has the sonic action it will work fine.....All the bells and whistles are just fluff ......
Customer Review: Will never go back to a manual toothbrush again, if I can help it. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great, SERIOUS, toothbrush, for super clean teeth. It think it is in the sonic technology. My teeth feel like I left the dentist almost everytime, I say almost, because it needs to be fully charged to feel the power. I don't put mine back on the charger after everytime I use it, so at the end of two weeks, the battery is kind of weak. I should charge it more often, but I often forget to. It doesn't take long to charge back to normal though, about 4 hours. I would say it needs recharging about one a week, other wise I just leave mine on my sink with out the charger, so that it doesn't clutter my vanity. I like the 2 minute timer that automatically shuts off the toothbrush to indicate you are done.
It is also easy to travel with too. Before I leave for a trip I charge it fully, and then it lasts for about 10 days without needing another charge.
I have the entry level sonicare, and have been using it for 2 years nonstop, and change the heads every 6-8 months, and still works like new when fully charged. I haven't had any techical problems with it, and for the price, the entry level sonicare gets the job done without having to spend the extra money on the quadrapace timer, or the thinner heads on the other model. I still can reach way in the back with the a series toothbrush head.
The only real downside, I do have to add is, it will NOT get you out of flossing though. DARN!
Customer Review: The key to Sonicare longevity... Summary: 5 Stars
For those complaining about short-lived units: the key to longevity with this (or ANY Ni-Cad battery device) is NOT to leave it on the charger constantly. Only use the charger after the battery is drained. This way, mine gets recharged once every 2 weeks. Otherwise it sits in the drawer like a regular toothbrush. No manufacturer will EVER tell you that little tidbit for reasons I'm sure you can figure out yourself. ALL rechargeable batteries have a finite number of usable charge cycles. Once used up the battery will stop taking a charge. Another longevity trick is to take teflon tape (used by plumbers) and seal tightly the hold-down cap of the brush head - this prevents water from rusting out the brush head magnets.
Update: Jan 22, 2011
Well, a second family Advance a4100 finally went to toothbrush heaven. Lasted only a little over 7 years. (Another one in our family was on it's eight year when it finally died) Can't complain too much about that! That's with twice-daily use & charging it ONLY after it runs down completely. I love the Sonicare. A new Essence model in on the way from Amazon as the Advance appears to be phased out of the Sonicare line. Too bad. I hope that the Phillips takeover hasn't been for the worse. Also, I have switched to the E series brush heads as they are more readily available than the original heads. Possibly they were phased out also.
Customer Review: my dental hygienist thinks it works great Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product a year ago with great reluctance. Ordinarily, I spend about one dollar on a toothbrush. Replaced monthly, that's 12 dollars a year. So the cost put me off.
On the other hand, I had my first cavities filled in two decades last year, and that wasn't inexpensive (or fun) either. And no matter how much I brushed and flossed, every visit my hygienist gave me a bad time about tartar build up and gum problems.
So I took the plunge.
I used it about 3 months prior to my next dental appointment, and did not say a word about it. My hygienist noticed a big difference and was effusive about how well I was taking care of my teeth. So I guess this vibrator with a brush on the end is not all hype!
I've followed the advice of reviewers who report long product life: I only place it in the charger when it needs charging, and then I charge it for 24 hours. I'm hoping to get five years out of it.
The only problem I encountered was increased sensitivity to cold - this went away when I reduced the use to once a day. Other brushings I use a regular toothbrush.
Also, it is probably not a good idea for most of us to use toothpastes with silica "whiteners" with a brush like this - you don't want to remove your enamel, just the plaque!
So, my opinion is that this is a great product.
