Customer Reviews of Philips Sonicare FlexCare Rechargeable Sonic Toothbrush

Customer Review: a major step up for Sonicare
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Prior to acquiring this model, I had over a year's experience with the Philips Sonicare Elite toothbrush, which I was using on my dentist's recommendation (and, frankly, after a fair amount of dental work). I needed something that would provide good brushing and I found the basic principles of the Sonicare system to be helpful, so I understood the system and what it could do.

This FlexCare model, however, is a big step up over the Elite series. This is less cumbersome and has some very useful (and easy) choices in modes of operation: it even has a "Go Care" 1-minute quickie routine if you're pressed for time. The charger, if reduced to its travel mode, is very small and it, and the brush/handle assembly, are very compact, much more so than the Elite. The "beep" that signals the time the user spends on each quadrant of his/her teeth is clever and means you will be spending the right amount of time on your teeth.

The toothbrush is cheaper to replace, is a lot simpler (the Elite toothbrush includes much of the mechanism) and, if more than one person uses Sonicare, means that you need have only one handle, a considerable savings as we've found the older Elite really needs one handle per user because of the clunky nature of the screw-on toothbrush. The FlexCare toothbrush is much smaller, has a nice series of colored rubber gaskets to distinguish one from another, and snaps on and off easily.

One point to stress that the manual does not: the Sonicare system really does need a light touch on the handle -- like holding a flute -- to save wear on the brushes. And a light touch is all that's needed, a lot better than using a manual toothbrush with too much force. Given the fact that dental work is costly, this toothbrush may save far more than you'd think. Highly recommend.

Customer Review: After trying others, I have found perfection

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is the third electric toothbrush I have tried in the last year and this one stands heads and shoulders over the other two. The first I tried was the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush which always felt awkward and replacement heads were expensive and not in my local stores. On the other hand, the Phillips Sonicare just seemed to fit the first time. Perhaps I am more adjusted to the feel of electric toothbrushes, but this one did not feel like I was brushing with a tennis racket. Also, replacement brushes are readily available and reasonably priced.

The second brush I tried was the cheaper Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush, which I was very happy with it. But a few friends kept raving about their Sonicares so I figured I better try one. The Sonicare probably costs twice what the Waterpik costs but it's worth it. It was kind of like driving a BMW when you are used to driving a PT Cruiser. The Waterpik was good and got the job done, but this brush just had a feel of quality.

This brush also has some great features, like the quick brushing, and although I didn't try it, there was a setting to ease new users into the world of electric toothbrushes. I have to say I'm am not that into the whistles and bells, I just wanted my teeth brushed, and I feel this brush was noticibly better than the other two. It's a well constructed, effective brush and my first recomendation to anyone looking for a brush. If you want a cheaper brush, I was happy with the Waterpik, but I would lean toward spending the extra.

Customer Review: Excellent toothbrush - very easy to use and effective

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have used other Sonicare products for a number of years, but have found that this unit easily surpasses other products. It has great features, is very easy to use, and most importantly, seems to leave you with feeling that your teeth are very clean.

The unit and charger are quite compact (and the charger has a base that can be removed to make it smaller for traveling) , so don't take up a lot of counter space. As a result, the toothbrush is quite manueverable and easy to use, an important feature if you use it for the recommended 2 minutes.

The toothbrush is very easy to use, in that you basically push a button to descide which of the clearning modes you want to use (basically there is a 2-minute clearning cycle, with the option of a one-minute quick clean or a3 minute cycle that works in a minute of gum massage. There is also a light that indicates how well charged the battery is.

One nice feature of the toothbrush is that it briefly stops (i.e., for a second) as you brush to remind you to move the brush to another quadrant of your mouth, helping assure that your brushing is complete. After two minutes, the unit shuts off.

This is an excellent product that does a great job and is easy to use. It really helps meet your brushing needs in that you can set it for different lengths of time (also there is a setting for sensitive teeth). The feature that tells you to move the brush to another part of your mouth is very helpful and really makes it easy to give your teeth a thorough brushing.

Very highly recommended!

Customer Review: One of my favourite things, and a necessity!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this toothbrush on the advice of a friend who was studying in Dental School at the time. I was reluctant to try electric toothbrushes because I thought they were for lazy people. I had broken my right thumb at a ball game, several years ago, and while my hand was in a cast, I used one of the cheaper AAA battery powered, rotating brush. That experience was a disappointment so I went back to my regular brush when the cast was gone. But Sonicare is truly is a fantastic cleaning machine and leaves the mouth feeling almost as clean as after a dental visit. I have now owned and used it for over two years. Still runs beautifully although battery life may have gone down a bit. I've read reviews that suggest that this may be the best toothbrush out there (Although if you are buying now, check out the newer Flexcare+ model, which has a better carrying case) I prefer the slim design of the Flexcare than the fatter models from both Philipps and Oral-B. Also I read a review that said the Elite model's refills can have stuff growing inside them unless you clean it regularly. A lesser problem on this brush. I like both the 1-minute and 3-minute modes on this, but both I and my hygienist wish they had a 2-minute option. The only drawback I see in Sonic toothbrushes is that they are a bit loud in the mouth, and some days when I am half asleep or it is late night, I don't want so much ruckus in my mouth, and I choose the regular brush. Vibration causes noise and your ears are right there. Philips can't fight Physics, so don't hold it against them. While traveling, this is a much heavier toothbrush to carry, so on some trips I take the regular brush. However, if the trip is longer than seven days, I immediately notice the drop in dental hygiene. This has become a necessity. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Head and Shoulders Above the Rest

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've tried just about every electronic toothbrush on the market (Sonicare Elite, Braun, Ultreo, and Waterpik), and the new Sonicare Flexcare beats them all.

Why?

1. Using the regular setting for a two-minute brush leaves my teeth feeling clean, the cleanest of any of the brushes I've tried.

2. Multiple power settings include a low power gum massage that's just great. This massage feels as though it stimulates blood flow to the gums, and that just has to be helpful.

3. Plus, for new users, there's an Easy Start program built into the brush that allows the brush speed to start slow and increase in power over several days. For users familiar with electronic brushes, however, starting with the regular (full power) setting won't be a problem.

4. The charger is solid and heavy enough to avoid the tipping over problems I've experienced with some other brushes. And there's a place to conceal the excess wiring beneath the charger.

5. The replacement brushes are reasonably priced. I won't be spending the price of a new setup every year just to get new brush heads. And I appreciate the fact that Phillips is not holding their customers hostage for replacement brush heads.

All in all, the new Flexcare is just about perfect. I highly recommend it!
