I've been using electric toothbrushes for more than a decade and finally found the one I like. I started with the round heads from OralB and they were ok, but then the sonicare technology picked my curiosity.
The price for Sonicare was ridiculous (still is) but eventually I found a justification to get it. Loved the actual brushing but I didn't get this model, nooooo back then the best I could get was one of the Essence model. Why?, why do these people have the brains to create a magnificent tool that cuts the cleaning at the dentist chair in more than 60% but make that ridiculous brush head. The head on the "Essence" model is an invitation for germs and cruddiness.
OralB has a nice, easy to keep clean brush head, why re-invent the wheel?. Fortunately Sonicare saw the light and came out with this FlexCare model that (similar to OralB)allows the user to keep the underside of the brush heads clean.
The toothbrush work great. Brushing the same times a day I used to with other brushes my cleanings at the dentist are no longer a nightmare. I sit, they look all over and just compliment me on the lack of tar or any build up, the process takes about the same it takes the strong cycle on my regular morning brush.

I have been using Braun Rechargeable Toothbrushes for about about 10 years, after my dentist recommend them. I had seen Sonic Toothbrush commercials and they seemed to be a step up. I am happy to say they are.
Warning: this doesn't feel like an electric toothbrush. It had a VERY high rate of motion to where it feel on par with the hum of a dentist's drill. Some people might not like the feel. It takes a little getting use to, but I quickly adjusted.
It's protective of gums. If you pressed too hard, it bogs down and makes a loud noise, so you are always keeping the proper pressure. This brush really cleans the hard to reach back teeth. I have a very small mouth and really getting the last teeth done is trouble. The brush head is very small, so it reaches easily and with the sonic power, really gets the uppers amazingly clean. You feel like you've just come from the dentist cleaning.
It charges up fast. I am very pleased with Sonicare.

Braun Plak Control Ultra is the brush I've been using for years. I was happy enough with it, and thought it did a superior cleaning job.
Well, the Philips Sonicare has the Braun beat by a mile, for the following reasons:
--3 different cleaning "modes" including one for sensitive teeth, one for massage, and one for clean (this mode feels most like a dentist's cleaning, minus the discomfort).
--timed settings so you can do a 1, 2, or 3 minute brushing.
--a brush head that is small enough to fit comfortably in the mouth, but has a better shape (oval-ish) than the round Braun brush head. (In other words, it covers more surface.)
--has an "interval timer" so you know you've spent enough time brushing each section of your mouth.
--comes with a nice travel case, and travel cap for the brush head, and charger.
What more is there to say? It's a great system that leaves your teeth feeling like you've had a professional cleaning.

I've used an electric toothbrush for years. A Rotodent that I got from my dentist. The Sonicare is much better - and is also the toothbrush that my dentist now carries and recommends.
The features are great. They make compact and standard brush heads and there are three different cleaning modes: Clean, Sensitive (that's the one I use most) and Massage. There's also a timer to make sure you're brushing long enough - which is a great idea for kids!
The charge on the battery lasts for weeks and it even comes with a travel case. There are colored band so family members can have their own brushes.
I have found this brush to be much more effective then the Rotodent. They both have been good for my gums but the Rotodent did not clean my teeth very well so I always needed to use a regular toothbrush in addition. The Sonicare REALLY cleans your teeth. They will be whiter, cleaner and your dentist will approve - a winner all around!

I've never been too cozy with the idea of electric toothbrushes for fear of having one of those things explode and sending my teeth flying everywhere like polished shrapnel. This new Sonicare toothbrush has alleviated my fears and is a truly fantastic product. Just by simply holding it, you get the feeling of quality craftsmanship and in action, it works wonderfully. It tickles a bit at first but if you've ever been to any self respecting dentist and gotten a cleaning, it feels just about the same, minus the pain and discomfort from the rest of said dentist's evil silverware. It really is great and it gives a cleaning beyond any regular toothbrush I've ever used. The instructions clearly explain how to handle this item and how to get maximum effectiveness out of it. It comes packaged with a charger and a removable head which can be safely packed away for travel in a small pouch which is also included.
Consider me a convert because I love this thing.
