After the latest in a long string of earbuds stopped working, I looked for an alternative. This one had the best reviews and I took a chance. It has a heavy duty cord which should last much longer than the ultra-thin earbud wire. Ofcourse it works fine as an under the pillow speaker, but I've found it is more functional and comfortable to wrap it in a small pillow case and use it as a combination eye shade/speaker. The fidelity is better that way, too. The volume range is very good: from so low only I can hear to loud enough to be heard across the room. At the low level the sound is good for both voice and music; at the high level a bit tinny. Also, if something annoying is being broadcast on the radio it's easy to slide the speaker away from the ear slightly till it's over. At first I thought only one speaker was working; pulling the plug out slightly fixed that. I like it.Customer Review: Excellent solution!

I listen to meditation CDs when going to bed. Headphones are uncomfortable so I use the regular stereo when I'm by myself and can close the door. But that's not always possible. When trying these out, the other person in bed could hear the speakers slightly. However, when I actually put them on at bed time, he had no idea. If you can turn them up loud enough to place your ear on your pillow between the speakers, it is really excellent! But even if you have to keep the volume lower, you can put your ear right over one of the speakers and hear just fine. I think that might have been the problem with the other person reviewing this. If you don't have the volume up loud enough and you put your ear between the speakers, you really can't hear it. But move an inch either way and you're golden! So, I have used pillow speakers for over 20 years. Mostly used various Radio Shack speakers. After a year or two the wires would break and I would have to buy another one. No big deal when they are under $10.
This speaker is really two stereo speakers in a enclosure. The enclosure keeps it from sliding which I find very useful. My only speakers would be on the floor in the morning on occasion. Also when it would slide it would stress the cable.
With this speaker, I tuck about 1 ft of cord into the enclosure to releave stress at the speaker and so far the cable stays put. This should help with the wire breakage. Time will tell.
The sound is also much better than the Radio Shack version.
Overall, worth it. A+

I think this pillow speakers is wonder if you having ringing in your ear(s) or a mate that snores; it helps you sleep so much better. I use an i-pod to hook it up to and it works perfect. You can spend more on pillow speakers, I have both but this speaker does a great job. It is thinner than the more expensive pillow and more comfortable to sleep on. Be sure to put the speaker under neat your pillow, inside the pillow case. Some put it on top of the pillow and this is a big mistake, it doesn't do the job.
The cord is a bit long and it would be wonderful if they added a volume control on the cord but I still think this is a wonderful item to have if you like to have music to put you to sleep.

I was looking for a pillow speaker so that I could listen to the radio when I woke up at night, without disturbing my husband. This speaker seems decently high quality and does the job -- so I'm quite happy with the purchase.
Some things to note: most radios do not have a headset jack, so I had to go buy a new radio (the only one with headset jack I could find were also MP3 players -- so $50). Second, if the pillow speaker is placed underneath the center of the pillow, the sound is too muffled to distinguish voices. However, if it's placed near the edge of the pillow then you can hear better and it's still soft enough to be unheard by anyone else in the bed.
