Made for mixing protein powder smoothly in liquid. The mixing arm is a small rubbery thing that spins around in the liquid breaking up clumps of powder. NOT for use with ice, so whoever gave this a 1 star because it wouldn't blend ice clearly misunderstood this little mixer's purpose. This mixer works best when liquid is added first and then the powder, or else the powder will stick to the bottom. Powder will stick to the bottom of manual shakers as well, so this is not unique product flaw. From personal experience, this is the only mixer I've used (besides real mini handheld blenders) that gets rid of all the protein lumps. Manual shakers do not come close to the smooth consistency that the Power Mixer achieves. The top cannot go in the dishwasher, but the mixing arm can be rinsed and wiped with a paper towel. The mixing arm can also pop off to go in the dishwasher. You can also use the base with other tall glasses, provided you hold it on firmly while it mixes. I've also used this regularly for months and haven't had any problems except for when the batteries started to die. For the price, this definitely gets 5 stars.
