Customer Reviews of Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, Delayed-Release Tablets - 42 eaCustomer Review: My only hope in these situations is Prilosec... Summary: 5 StarsI am wandering far afield from my regular fare to review an over-the-counter medication, and I am certainly not a doctor or in any way qualified to advise anyone as far as medicines go, but I did feel compelled to review Prilosec because, to me, it is a wonder drug, and I am so very glad it is now available over the counter. My stomach and I have something of a love-hate relationship, and I am prone to pressure of a certain sort in my upper abdominal regions from time to time. It may or may not be heartburn; all I know is that it feels like industrial strength hunger pangs taking root way up high and that it can be triggered by the consumption of such foods as white chicken meat, turkey and dressing, and cantaloupe. Whatever it is, it is darn uncomfortable and liable to last for a couple of days if left to its own acidic devices. Antacids do nothing to help me, and even the purple pill known as Nexium strikes out every time. My only hope in these situations is Prilosec, which until now has not always been available to me because it could only be obtained with a prescription. Now, though, I can always have a ready supply of this wonder drug on hand, and while the pharmaceutical company isn't exactly giving this stuff away, the cost is definitely worth it in terms of peace of mind, not to mention peace of stomach. The package says that Prilosec is not intended for the immediate relief of heartburn, that it should be taken over a course of several days and may require at least a day to reach full effect. I'm not going to argue the point. In my case, though, Prilosec knocks out the worst of my discomfort within an hour; it really takes no time at all to work its magic inside my system. Prilosec may not work as quickly or as effectively for others out there, but I would definitely recommend you give this product a try if you do suffer from heartburn and similar problems on a frequent basis, especially if nothing else you have taken in the past seemed to prove very effective.
Customer Review: This stuff works too... Summary: 5 StarsUnlike the reviewer below, I actually do know what I suffer from: Acid Reflux. I went to the quack to find this out. It is a great relief to be able to purchase this stuff over the counter because it negates trips to the hospital to pick up prescribed medicine. This stuff works too, AMAZINGLY WELL!!! It won't work for everyone but I must say that I've unsuccessfully tried to use Zantac and Pepcid under both otc doses and prescribed doses (typically about twice the strength of otc dose), and they don't work any better than a glass of milk. My medical prescription was for Pantoprazole which quite frankly when compared to this prilosec otc was not much better than the pepcid, zantac or the glass of milk. The 14 pill size box that you are going to buy is the standard series for effecting a cure for acid reflux. In other words, the manufacturer has specifically engineered its medicine to be used in a 14 day series. It worked immediatly for me, if it doesn't work right away for you I highly recommend that you continue the series. It is worth it, trust me. I've been suffering from Acid Reflux for almost exactly 12 years. It is a miserable condition to be in if untreated. Big Ups for FDA allowing this to go on sale OTC.
Customer Review: This is one of the top money-making drugs of all time... Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the top money-making drugs of all time, and for good reason. It works. I used to have pretty bad acid reflux. I would chew Pepcid Complete (which is an antacid drug combined with a base to neutralize acid) after every meal, as if they were after-dinner mints. Now, I just take Prilosec once a day, and now I almost never suffer from heartburn, and when I do, it is not as bad as it used to be. Trust me on this. This drug works differently than Pepcid or Zantac (I have a Ph.D in biology), so if those drugs don't work for you, don't be afraid to give this a try.
Customer Review: This medicine did not work for me at all. Summary: 1 StarsThis medicine did not work for me at all. I got all the side effects of itchiness all over the body, headaches, backaches, abdominal pains, without any improvement on my heartburns. I used this medicine for a month and my chronic heartburns got even worse that I could not even sleep at night. My doctor finally switched my medicine to Prevacid, which worked a lot better for me. I bought so many packs of Prilosec (I had to take them twice a day for 2 months) and now it's going useless.
Customer Review: I highly recommend this product to anyone who suffers acid reflux or chronic heartburn. Summary: 5 StarsAs my acid reflux worsened over the years, I made the usual progression from antacid tablets, to Pepcid AC, and eventually to prescription medications like Prevacid and Nexium. Prevacid works great but it still requires a prescription and Nexium caused side effects in me. Once Prilosec was offered over the counter I gave it a try and was very impressed. After a week or two of taking it every day, I was able to decrease the dosage to the point where I only take it as needed now. Once I feel heartburn starting, or I eat something guaranteed to give me heartburn, I just take one of these and its gone in about 30 minutes...and when I say gone I mean gone for 10-12 hours.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who suffers acid reflux or chronic heartburn.
