My doc had me on Protonix and then Nexium, which both caused me to have some ridiculous side effects after prolonged use (insomnia, racing heart . . . I am otherwise in good health so in my doc's opinion it was the meds). Both also had absurd deductibles w/my current HCP (Nexium was in the category of drugs that came w/a $40 deductible!). My doc recommended I try Prilosec as an alternative since it was: (1) available over the counter; and (2) cheaper. I switched, and haven't looked back. It takes a few days to become 100% effective, but once it is, you are good to go (at least I was). Plus, I haven't experienced any side effects from taking Prilosec! If you are having side effects w/other drugs, and/or have a high deductible like I do, I would recommend at least giving Prilosec a try.Customer Review: This product works most of the time...

As an OTC, my pharmacist said this was the best "acid reducer" available. I am thrilled to find this product available online for a much more reasonable price than I can find even at Walmart! I highly recommend prilosec to anyone with GERD: taken regularly (I have to take two tablets each day when I am treating my arthritis), I am symtom free. Outstanding! I would give this product five stars if the manufacturer would stop wasting so many resources packaging it!Customer Review: If you must buy a medication of this type...

I've been taking Nexium for the past few years, but suddenly my insurance company has decided they don't want to cover it. The only choice I have is to take Prilosec OTC. It's by far the best acid reflux medication on the market, although it's nowhere near as effective as Nexium. If you must buy a medication of this type, Prilosec OTC is your best bet.
