This replacement filter does just the trick. I run my Vics V3100 on high every night and the filter lasts just under two months for me (the box states: "The Cool Mist Wicking Filter should be replaced about every two months, depending on use and local water hardness.") If the humidifier tank runs out of water while running, the filter will dry up completely until you add more water - I've found that this practice reduces the life of the filter.
Note: One point of confusion is how Amazon lists this item (as of 1/24/10). The title reads: "2 Filters (Pack of 3)" - actually, each box only contains 1 filter. The packaging is confusing as there's a big 2 on the top right of the box. However, if you look at the lower right corner of the box, in much smaller print you see "Contains 1 filter." So, in summary, you are ordering a total of 3 filters (1 Filter/box, Pack of 3 boxes).

Great filter for my cool mist humidifier! I'm a smoker, and it snag's alot of the yuck from smoke out of the air - can see it in the yellowing of the filter fairly quickly. I probably go through more filters than most during the winter season while the house is closed up, but seeing that yellowing sure makes the price low considering the talk about second hand smoke these days. I have a cat, and can't help but think of how it's also filtering out allergens from it too. The filter holds water nicely making the humidifier very efficient. Could go on, but you get the idea. This is the perfect filter for my humidifier. It took a lot of searching to find the right one, at a price that I could live with. The price, even including shipping, is less than buying it locally at Walgreens, where I purchased the humidifier last year. With a new filter, I can rest assured I'm getting properly filtered air, since I am on oxygen 24/7 and require the humidifier. I was impressed with the speed of delivery and will sure buy another filter soon. They have to be changed every 90 days or so. That makes price doubly important. It is a filter and it does fit my model. I got these at a really great price from Amazon when they were having a sale around Spring time. We usually have to replace our filters often in the winter, so I like to have extras hanging around.
If these will fit your humidifier, go ahead and buy them. I don't know if they really last longer than regular filters, but they are a necessity in the long winter months.

I ordered this product Wednesday night and it came to me by Friday morning. It was the quickest shipment I've ever received. I had standard delivery and at wasn't too happy that it was not part of Amazon's $25 Free shipping policy but the fact that it arrived so fast made up for it.
Filter-wise, this one does a good job for my humidifier. Soaking in vinegar helps prolong the life of the filter.
