my whole life I have had problems with redness, razor bumps, and in grown hairs when I shave. I hate shaving and have tried about every razor and blade combo. so let me save you some pain.
best setup for pain free shave starts with a good hot shower just before you shave. then apply the shaving soap. edge shaving cream can't compare in terms of slickness and smoothness to any good shaving soap. trust me. ditch the cheap can of shaving cream and get a real bar of shaving soap and a brush to apply it. you can use your hands to apply soap if you hate cleaning a brush. then get the quatro blade. I found these blades best for a smooth shave as it's the only cartridge which has the little wires on the blades to keep blades aligned and from digging into you face. wires really work to prevent nicks and redness and keeps the blades gliding. and yes I tried the gimmicky Gillette mach 3 power and fusion blade and was not that impressed with there longevity. although I admit mach 3 and fusion give a pretty smooth shave till they wear out. but the mach 3 also nicked me more then quatro. and the fusion is double the cost of quatros. okay, now your done shaving and here is where most guys blow it! never use an alcohol based aftershave. the alcohol will feel good at first but it will irritate and dry your skin and only make things worse in the long run. I know, I made this mistake for years. get yourself some "nivea for men post shave balm"!! (can be found at walmart)
the stuff is more expensive but after about 2 months of use no more ingrown hairs and it doesn't sting when you put it on like alcohol based stuff. just wonderful!! hope this helps you !!
