Perhaps my title exaggerates just a bit; after all, as technology goes this is fairly low-tech. Still, a number of features make distinguish this product from most off the competitors:
1. It does not cut grooves into your fingers or your gums. Reach "total floss" is flat rather than thin and stringy (think fettucine rather than spaghetti), and it is adequately waxed ("not too much, not too little," said Baby Bear). The shape is a huge improvement (although not unique to this product) over less expensive thinner, tighter material that seems like a garret around your fingers and a razor against your gum line.
2. Strong--doesn't break. As suggested above, this is a more substantial floss than many; I had no trouble navigating it through narrower passages and it never broke. A very big advantage!
3. Flavor. Again, it strikes a happy medium between bland and overdone. It has a pleasant, natural mint taste (it does NOT taste like traditional Listerine). While this feature may seem extraneous, it actually provides further feedback about whether you've reached the flossing target areas: You can taste and feel that the floss has met your gums and teeth.
4. Texture. I'm not sure if this is what's meant by micro-grooves, but the product has a very subtle but effective texture. Although barely noticeable, it seems to engage more than the typical material.
You'll pay a little more than some brands (I recommend buying this only in bulk after trying it once, and only if you do not have to pay for shipping), and I would like to know what chemicals/ingredients give it that lavender-like color, but overall this was so efficient and pain-free that I imagine it will increase my FPW (flossings per week). With flossing's health benefits and resulting dental savings, anything that increases your FPW (even if it were only a placebo effect) is worth it.
