We first purchased this several years ago when our pet became very sick. Fast forward, and we've been using this for our three-month-old baby. Worked great in both instances! Am thrilled that the battery didn't need to be changed after being dormant for a while.
What I like best is that you can put a diaper or cloth or whatever on the scale and then zero it out. This allows an accurate reading when putting the baby on the scale with a diaper. We found the weight an almost exact match with the scale in the doctor's office. The curved edges help keep the baby in the middle when we lift our hands off him an inch or so.
It's flat and about the size of a family electric griddle. We store it flat, so not sure how it would respond to being stored sideways. Not so sure it would store well that way.
For a small pet, it will be relevant for a very long time. The baby has almost outgrown it at three months due to his length, so there will be limited use. While it was great being able to weigh the baby at will, it would have been fine to just weigh him at the doctor's office since he was born near the due date and fortunately there were no issues requiring weighing at home.
