Bought this for a friend with diabetic retinopathy - it really works! The magnification seems much more than 4x because the shape allows for maximum light penetration. Also - the larger diameter (80mm / 3 1/8-in) is worth the weight - the reading area is correspondingly larger and much easier to read than with smaller dome or hand held magnifiers.
