Let me just get this out of the way first: If your goal is to feel as smooth as a naked, slippery baby seal, THIS is your product.
I've been pining for an epilator for years now -- since my early teen years when I grew my lovely adolescent peach fuzz mustache. I have dark, somewhat thick hair (on my head), peach fuzz on my face and body, and dark leg hair.
I've researched tons of Emjoi, Remington, and Braun products before finally deciding to buy this one on Amazon... The 50% price cut to $25 didn't hurt, either.
I have very, very sensitive skin, so was a little wary of trying this out. Nair and other chemical depilatories caused painful, horrific skin reactions, at-home waxing caused red welts (plus the finishing oil that comes with the home wax kits made me break out) and wasn't precise enough, and I wanted to try something other than shaving.
I tried this on my legs and one arm (just in case I had a reaction.. wouldn't want TWO arms looking rashy) several days ago, and they are so smooth! On my arm, I have a few (3-4) follicles that have tiny pinpoint sized scabs, but they are not so bad. I was afraid my arm would react to the tweezers ripping the hair out (I have never tried removing my arm hair before), but there aren't even any ingrown hairs!
I have some peach fuzz on my body (though I am far from a Sasquatch, okay?), and it easily removed it from my lower back, my stomach, and chest. Smooth as a baby seal!
The sensation I felt using this product varied. On my body (back, stomach, chest) there was little to no discomfort at all. On my chest, there were a few prickly feelings, but nothing that made me stop or even wince.
On my legs, it was a little more noticeable. I wouldn't call it pain, but it felt like mild pins and needles -- very ticklish, in fact. After a minute or so, it isn't so noticeable.
I did not use it on my armpits or "down there." I think I may stick to shaving there for the time being. I tried to use it on my bikini line but chickened out. I ripped out 5 hairs and I stopped.
Now, onto the face:
I've tried wax strips before, and it is a similar feeling. Yes, it hurts. Quite a bit, actually. Whereas the wax strips are ripped off in one quick tug, the epilator has to be worked on for a minute or two. The sharp sensation of the rotating tweezer discs are much more noticeable on my face than on the rest of my body. I didn't press it hard on my face, and instead lightly glided it over, and it seemed to be a little less painful. But stick with it, and you will be fuzz free! I found it very much worth the pain. But unless you'd like to go out in public with a very red upper lip and/or chin, refrain from using it before important outings. I'd say it takes at least 3-4 hours for the skin to settle down again.
Technique-wise, you really have to work with it and try many different positions. Sometimes it works better with the label side facing up, others with it facing down. The surefire way to know which position is best is to keep your ears perked for the sound of hairs ripping out (I am not even joking). Keep at it. You'll get 'em.
All in all, I love this product. It is highly effective, the gold plated hypoallergenic tweezers are a very important selling point for me and my sensitive skin, and right now I am in hairless baby seal mode. I am so happy to feel smooth and soft and NOT pained and bumpy. I have yet to see any ingrown hairs or any other detriment.
I'd say get this product while it's on sale! If you are occassionally shocked at the amount of embarrassing fuzz you see in the mirror, this really does the trick.
