I love coffee, the taste of it and it's effects on making me awake, alert, and creative... that said, sometimes getting a cup of joe can be inconvenient. Enter Stay Alert gum! Yowsa, within a minute or two you realize you're a lot more awake, much faster than drinking coffee or any energy drink. If getting awake fast is your goal, this gum is your solution.
I'm not sure what medical issues the gentleman who posted two stars who wanted to downgrade his review to one stay but clearly he has some type of mouth problem (or other issue) is he's not getting the effect quickly. The majority of the other reviews here though are spot on, including, sadly, the taste, it's pretty awful, that said, it doesn't last long (thankfully). I've tried the others including Jolt, they do not pack a punch like this gum.
Now the only reason I'd see fit to want to deduct half-a-star though it'd only be a personal thing, it does, when taken too many and/or following coffee, for me, give me some heart palpitations. Like the other person said, it'd be hard to consume 10 cups of coffee without knowing you're doing so and potentially giving yourself a caffeine overdose. The directions are very clear that you start with one, wait for the effect, then if you need another take two. Consider these like any serious drugs, these aren't for kids but adults with good cognitive reasoning. Be responsible with this product.

I have purchased this product several times now. I used to buy the smaller quantity, but since this qualifies for SuperSaverShipping, it is a far better deal. If you are looking at this product, I have to figure that you are no stranger to caffeine. I happen to be partial to energy drinks. If you are of the same mind, you can agree with me that some brands of energy drinks come with an unpleasant crash (especially if it is your second or third). Chew a Stay Alert near the end of your energy drink ride to prolong the caffeine high. If you are familiar with all-nighters, you can sympathize with me when I describe the "hump" around 3 or 4 am in the course of studying. Stay Alert will help bridge the gap and get you to the other side unscathed. The gum does well on its own too. You will not get the same kind of high as a traditional energy drink, due, I presume, to the lack of copious amounts sugar. But it is more enough to boost your mood, or get you through the after-lunch class (with clever comments to boot!). This product has gotten me through undergrad, 12-hr laboratory shifts, and is doing well in graduate school so far. Go for it. What's 20-some dollars in the scheme of life?

I brought some of this with me on a long car trip this summer. From experience I know that when my head starts nodding, I have but a few minutes to pull over and take a catnap, or become a danger to myself and others. Trouble is, there isn't usually a place to pull over right away--the nearest rest area is often a half hour or so away (and on some state highways there are none at all). Not a problem with Stay Alert! This time I popped one piece, started chewing, and literally within a few seconds my head stopped nodding and I felt exactly as though I had taken a nap. I was wide awake. The effect stayed with me for 2-3 hours, and by then I was able to find a rest area and take a nap.
I used it sparingly, only when I had no choice; I took naps whenever I could, and Stay Alert saved my behind several times on this trip. This stuff really works. And Amazon has it for the lowest price I've seen online.
It has a cinnamon flavor which is acceptable, but not the best. But then again, you don't chew this for the flavor. When you're tired but you need to keep going, you don't care about flavor; all you care about is staying awake. This stuff will get you over the hump.

I'm not sure where to begin with this stuff. First, it's not just a substitute for coffee/energy drinks, it's much more effective. One minute I'll feel like death, 20 seconds after chewing a piece of this I'll be perfectly fine. I believe it is this effective because a portion of the caffeine is absorbed directly through the mouth and, well, ends up where it counts. This has the added benefit of not affecting your bowels as caffeinated beverages do and the effectiveness is less dependent on weight. Naturally it is also cheaper and much more convenient than a drink which is huge for me. I use this for school mostly so having a pack on me for whenever I need a price is invaluable. Bottom line, it works.
And now the more subjective portion of the review, the taste. Personally I don't think it gets any better than this. I dislike mint and I'm not particularly fond of sugar-free gum so this is actually one of the few gums that conforms to my taste. Yes, caffeine is bitter, but with this I've actually managed to acquire a taste for it and I have to try not to chew this stuff casually. (Think alcohol, and I've only been through a few packs)

I am currently working on my third tray of Stay Alert, I have one a day at about 3pm. It keeps me going and makes it so I don't get crabby from not having enough coffee (I drink eight cups every morning). It only takes five minutes of chewing to feel great again, I have shared this great product with my family members who also are coffee addicts like myself. Sometimes if I have to leave quickly to an emergency and cannot get any coffee in my system I chew one piece of gum in the car. I have Stay Alert stashed all over the place: In the center console of my car, on top of the microwave, at my desk, in my nightstand, in my earthquake kit, and in my tool kit. It's like having extra batteries for your flashlight.
The taste is great and really does not have anything funky going on like all of the other chewable caffeine product on the market (I have tried them all over the last fifteen years). This gum is better than any pill because you get instant results and no jitters or overdose feeling. Just a perfect clean alertness.
If this company ever goes public I want in!!!
