Customer Reviews of Schiff MegaRed Omega-3 Krill Oil 300 mg - 90 Softgels

Customer Review: Not a fan of Krill Oil!
Summary: 2 Stars

My husband and I switched over to Krill Oil from Fish Oil to give it a try and see what all the "hype" was about! We do not like the krill oil at all. Neither one of us felt the same benefits from this one little pill as we did from our original fish oil pills. My husband suffers from depression and bi-polar and the fish oil pills really helped him A LOT, after 2 weeks on the krill oil we could see the change in his mod for the worse, they do not do the same thing (at least for him) for his bi-polar as the fish oil def do! We are switching back to fish oil asap!!! The DHA is much higher in our original fish oil product.

Customer Review: No longer NKO krill oil.
Summary: 2 Stars

The Amazon description specifies Mega Red NKO krill oil. In fact, I received Mega Red Superba krill oil, from which I have experienced significant GI distress. NKO oil was problem-free.

Customer Review: The quick and dirty low down...
Summary: 1 Stars

Here is my honest review of the product. The problem with this pill is such:

1. This pill is not the end all, do all, be all as it claims. Sorry folks. To see the main problem flip over to the actual supplement facts. You get a total of 90mg of Omega 3 fatty acids, 50 mg of EPA, 24 mg of DHA. Before hopping to this I was taking 1200 mg of Omega 3's per day on regular fish oil pills. You simply aren't getting enough. Period.

2. Another problem is this, where are they getting their krill? Read their website. They say it comes from "pure" places but unless there is any mention of filtration/purification processes don't trust it. They claim they do quality testing but there is no one is going to be twisting their arm over it. Think about this, all water in the world is connected. Water tables, oceans, rain, glaciers, everything. Heavy pollution that happens in China, here, anywhere will in some small way have a global effect on sealife. When you buy pills like this whose ingredients originate from the sea you need clarification that hard metals and contaminants are removed. Does anyone even remember the whole brouhaha that went down with coral calcium over lead and mercury poisoning a few years ago due to lack of filtration/purification? This is my point! A popular brand I used to use (and not to promote it) was Nordic Naturals. They outright stated the specific processes they used. There were no smoke and mirrors. This is your health folks. Best to know whats going inside you.

3. People may be disinclined to try fish oil or go back to it even if it may be better because of the fishy aftertaste. there are a few things you can do to reduce the aftertaste. Try taking the pills directly before a meal so you absorb the pill/pills with food. Try also freezing (yes, freezing) the pills to slow absorption.

Final overview: The product is overpriced, underpowered, and shady. You don't know exactly what you are getting but you hope you are getting enough of it and nothing which will hurt you.

Customer Review: Schiff changs MegaRed formula. Buyer beware.
Summary: 1 Stars

We had been using Schiff MegaRed Original formula with genuine NKO (Neptune Krill Oil) for a long while with excellent results. When we received our most recent order of MegaRed we found that the size and content of the soft gel had changed from the tiny red pill with no smell or aftertaste to a larger brown soft gel that smells rancid. In fact the ingredients on the label were different as well. After several emails with Schiff customer service, who never addressed the larger size and brown color of the pill, we finally learn what we feared. It's a different formula. It's a different Krill Oil altogether. It's unclear if they will return to the original tiny clear red gel containing pure Neptune Krill Oil that works so well for us. We've used Schiff for years and never known them to do a bait and switch like this. We are now looking for another brand for genuine Neptune Krill Oil. Read the label carefully. If the label doesn't say genuine NKO (Neptune Krill Oil) it isn't the original MegaRed. Buyer beware.

Customer Review: DISTURBING SIDE EFFECT
Summary: 1 Stars

Shortly after taking 2 caps a day I began having a phantom olfactory sensation (smell) of a sweet, sea-weedy, unpleasant nature. I actually started gagging in bed last evening and put perfume on the end of my nose to distract myself! I couldn't find any external source and thought that it might actually be generated internally. It occurred to me that it could be the Mega Red so I broke open a capsule and sure enough, the thick, shockingly red oil smelled exactly like my phantom odor. I can't begin to imagine what my insides look like, let alone smell like--other body by-products also smell like krill oil. Regular Omega-3 fish oils have not had this effect (those that are marketed as having no fishy aftertaste). I found this nasty sensation very disturbing.
