Customer Reviews of Smooth Away Hair Removal System - As Seen on TVCustomer Review: good for the face Summary: 3 Stars
I was a little shocked to see how poorly this was rated on Amazon. I bought this product after a friend recommended it for my annoying mustache (I am female, by the way). It really worked pretty well. If I would have written the review a few minutes after using it I would have given it 5 stars, my upper lip was smooth and soft and hairless, and my mustache isn't the nice little blonde soft hairs, it's pretty thick and coarse. Very embarrassing. By the next day I had a bit of peeling on my upper lip. It did irritate the skin, and I did feel a bit of burning right after, but it wasn't so bad and the irritation wasn't too noticeable. My least favorite thing is probably that when the hair begins to grow back it's almost like I shaved, it's all coarse and prickly. I don't like that feeling.
I use this product, along with tweezers and whatever else to get the annoying hair to be gone. I keep the small face pad in the car and I use it as I'm driving when the hair gets bothersome. I have not used the product on my leg, but I can imagine it would be time consuming and probably wouldn't work as well. I have heard great reviews both on here and from a friend that it works really well for a young girl with hairier than average legs, but too young to use a razor.
Customer Review: It's okay. Summary: 3 Stars
After trying this product for awhile, I can say that it functions okay. It's not a miracle product, but it does get the hair off, and I can see certain situations where it might be useful. Takes quite a bit of rubbing before it will buff the hair off, and more sensitive skin areas may get irritated by the friction. You might have to rub one spot for several minutes to get all the hair completely off, so this is definitely not something you'd want to use when you're in a hurry. Keeping both your legs hairless using this doesn't seem all that practical because of the time issue. Not as convenient as a razor, not as thorough as waxing. But I can see where it would be useful for small areas that are hard to shave, like the knees.
PROS
-no pain, unless your skin is really sensitive
-no razor burn and itchiness after like with shaving
-good for areas that are hard to shave
-versatile; can remove hair from just about anywhere
CONS
-takes a lot longer than shaving
-the friction might irritate some skin types
-coarser hair more difficult to buff off, takes longer
-buffs hair off right at the surface, so it grows back in pretty quick
All in all, an average product.
Customer Review: It Works Ok...not tbe best though. Summary: 3 Stars
I'll admitt just as the others say it had also irritated my skin a little. I used it on my stomach where I do have embarassing hair. It worked to remove the hair but it took quite awhile till it removed everything. But now I have small little red itchy bumps on the area below my belly button but above the underwear line from using it. Nothing too major. I don't itch a lot at all. Not a good reaction from it even after using the lotion they say to use after using it. They say not to apply too much pressure may be a few of you may have applyed too much and may not seem like it. I may be wrong. I didn't apply much at all and got my reaction. I like the results but I won't want the irritation. It works on my legs but I use if after shaving in the shower and it gets what ever I have't in the shower. But it does kinda make my skin look dry afterwards. Doesn't hurt my legs at all. But definately bothers my stomach. Didn't seem to work much for my upper lip I was going to try it but was told the hair could grow back even thicker then before and I am afraid of that happening. I guess you get different reactions depending on how your skin takes it. Wouldn't be so bad if you could apply something before using it to prevent skin irritation.
Customer Review: It does work. Summary: 3 Stars
My mom included this with my stocking stuffers this Christmas. I laughed it off. And then I tried on my legs and later on a male friend who had a teeny patch of back hair. It worked in both instances (better on him). I do not think this will work at all on folks with course hair, but if you have fine body hair and patience, it works well. I have NO IDEA how, but I had stubbly legs before the beginning of the one hour show I just watched and have smooth legs now. I wouldn't dare try this on my face, as I think on a microscopic level it's actually still ripping the hair out and scrubbing the outer layers of skin off. I also wouldn't use it for every shave as my skin is very sensitive after this (not sore just, sensitive) and I think that's because of the otherwise protective layers of dead and dying skin being removed. Also, it say s on the box "not recommended for diabetics," so I can guess it stimulates blow flow somehow too.
Frankly, it's a fun little novelty and I will probably use the remaining pads for camping trips and the like and otherwise stick to shaving.
I would also strongly recommend using an alcohol free non perfumed moisturizer after using this product.
Customer Review: Not Bad Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this product at Bed Bath and Beyond for $9.99. It works, but it took me about half an hour to accomplish the job, and by the next day I could feel stubble again. It just physically cannot reach below the surface of the skin. I did not experience any sensitivity on my legs at all, but the skin on my upper lip was too sensitive to tolerate it and the hairs there were more resistant so I decided not to use it there. I think this sensitivity issue is going to vary between individuals.
What I did NOT like about this product was the plastic pad that you stick the abrasive paper to. It has that nauseatingly stinky cheap plastic odor that I can't stand but is present in many products these days, and it left the scent behind on my fingers. So now I don't bother to use the pad, and it actually works better because I can press the paper to conform to the contours of my skin and it does a better job that way. I would suggest forgetting about buying the kit and just getting the refill package; much cheaper that way.
What I like is that I can curl up on the couch and rub away while watching my favorite TV show, it's all done by feel anyway, and there's no worry about dripping lotion or nicking myself.
