Customer Reviews of Solgar - Magnesium Citrate, 120 tablets

Customer Review: noticeable effect, great value
Summary: 4 Stars

After researching ZMA (Zinc/Magnesium Aspartate) and finding mostly positive reviews, I decided to purchase this, as the citrate form seems to be a bit cheaper and just as bio-available. I find the pills to be without taste or smell, and quite easy to swallow. They aren't too large, and get kind of slippery once in your mouth. The directions say to take two, preferably with meals, witch contradicts most other magnesium supplement usage labels which state to take on an empty stomach, and not to co-ingest with calcium. So I take one or two in the morning with some juice or water, about 15 minutes before eating breakfast. I've noticed a definite improvement in sleep quality--less waking throughout the night, and more dreams. No negative side effects, other than slight upset stomach if I take two and don't consume enough liquid. Love the glass bottle.

Customer Review: Trusted brand, good ingredients
Summary: 4 Stars

I have Meneires and use this to help protect my hearing.

To me the difference between taking the product and not is noticeable.

I take it once per day, along with fish oil, Ginko and vitamin C (my "cocktail")

I trust the Solgar brand, and none of the ingredients seem suspect.

Customer Review: 200 mg of Magnesium
Summary: 4 Stars

Seems OK but you should know that each tablet contains only 200 mg of Magnesium...

Customer Review: I Seem To Be A Rare Specimen; I Prefer Magnesium Oxide!
Summary: 2 Stars

I first became interested in taking a magnesium supplement for two reasons. One- I have a long term condition that leaves me fatigued and I heard it can help with energy. Two - I have problems with bowel regularity and heard it is awesome for helping with that problem. Prior to buying this product, I used magnesium oxide which I purchased fairly cheaply at my local Meijer.

It worked pretty well. I began further researching magnesium since I was supplementing with it just so I would know what I was putting into my body. I learned that magnesium citrate is absorbed more easily by the body, and immediately sought out to buy it.

This product came promptly in a glass bottle and each tablet is 200 mg. I gave it a low rating because it made me bloat up and look as though I was pregnant! We are talking at least an inch to two inches larger than normal for me. I thought that perhaps since it is absorbed better by my body than the oxide version, I needed to lower the dosage and this was the cause of my bloating. The next few days I went from my former 500mg a day to 300 mg and was still bloated. I have now been back to my cheap magnesium oxide and have no bloating and feel I am getting the benefits magnesium has to offer. However, it seems as though I am an unusual case judging by all of the positive reviews.

Tip: taking a tablespoon of lemon or lime juice with your magnesium can help you body absorb it better -- this is what I do with my magnesium oxide

Bottom Line: For me, magnesium oxide does the exact same thing as this product, magnesium citrate, at a lower price and without the bloating.
