Customer Reviews of Spenco(r) PolySorb(r) Total Support Premium InsoleCustomer Review: Prolonged use can cause heel injury Summary: 2 Stars
Initially I was so pleased with the performance of Spenco Polysorb Total Support Insoles in my hiking boots I purchased a second pair for the lightweight-hiking boots I use for every day use.
Long story short: As the main black foot bed compresses with use over time, the very hard red rubber heel cushion that is affixed to the bottom of the black foot bed through an opening in the gray stability cradle forms a lump which pushes up into the bottom of the heel.
The lump is very subtle. I did not notice it until after I transferred these insoles to new hiking boots that I purchased because I was experiencing heel pain. The pain did not subside with new boots. Looking for other possible causes, I closely examined the insoles and noticed the lump. Upon replacing these insoles with the flimsy insoles that came with the boots, relief was almost instantaneous. I can tell it will take a while for my heel to fully recover. In the mean time, I have purchased a competing brand high performance insole.
If you start to experience heel pain and these insoles are in your shoes, replace the insoles, not the shoes.
Customer Review: There are better choices elsewhere Summary: 2 Stars
I don't know what all the fuss is about, but sorry, I rate these supports as only fair.
I tried them in my Merrell hiking shoes and found them to be only marginally better than the one's already provided by the shoe manufacturer (the Spenco's did have better arch support). The big drawback in these inserts is that they do not provide the shock absorption that I am accustomed to when using my old Sorbothane Ultra inserts. If you are looking for good shock absorption, then look elsewhere. However, by using the Merrell shoe inserts over the Spenco's I did get a better degree of shock absorption which I found acceptable. I did have to stretch my shoes a bit using a shoe stretcher to accommodate for the additional inserts since the shoes were still new. If you need both arch support AND shock absorption when shopping for inserts, you might want to try getting separate arch supports and placing good shock absorbing inserts like the Sorbothane Ultra's over them. Again, you may have to stretch the shoes a bit to accommodate for the additional material inside the shoe.
Customer Review: Good but does not last Summary: 2 Stars
I have purchased 2 sets of the Spenco Polysorb Total support, and I like that you put them in your preheated oven for a few minutes then slip them in your shoes followed by your feet. They get molded to your feet for an excellent fit. The support is very good. But it doesn't last. That is a problem. They are expensive at prices between $22 to $30 dollars plus shipping, these should last you a year, BUT THEY WON'T. You get maybe 3 good months out of them. and in my book is not long enough. I am in my late fifties and not overweight plus I am not jogging or lifting heavy weights, where these should breakdown so soon. Do you hear me manufacturers give people the product they put there hard earned money into.
Customer Review: Decent support, good price, but shrink when heated Summary: 2 Stars
I should have paid attention to the other reviews, as I followed the instructions and cut them to fit from the old insoles before heating and molding. As others have mentioned, the insoles shrink a lot when heated, so I ended up with insoles that were too small and my toes hung off the end, so I wasted my money. I ended up just buying a cheap pair of insoles from Sports Authority which are just fine.
So, while the product quality in general is good, don't heat them unless you are very careful about the sizing (or don't cut them until after heating).
Customer Review: First impression Summary: 2 Stars
Compared to the SOF insoles I was using prior to these, the Spenco's feel cheaply made and I would guess won't last very long. My old SOF insoles have been in my gym shoes for at least 3 years which have been used daily and they are still in good shape, the only reason I bought the Spenco's are I thought I needed some better arch support. I did just go to Famous Footwear and bought some SOF insoles with extra arch support and they seem much better made and probably will last me years like my previous pair.
